Hello guys

I've been given the hard sell speech from a guy at yell.com. £500 a year and he says I'll get all the business I want. Advice please? Any good experiences / bad experiences etc please share.

Cheers!

£500 a year and he says I'll get all the business I want.

Define all the business you want, get him to put that in writing and then we'll see how confident the Yell salesman is.

Cool. Do you have any experience of yell.com or know someone who has then?

Yell are selling basic HTML Pages with no design aspect just replacing headers and text and charging people £500.00 a year which is ridiculous. You can hire a professional designer for a week for that.

Yeah it is a terrible marketing ploy from Yell. I can't remember the last time Yell even came near the top on a Google search for me. Let alone trawling through it to find a business I wanted to work with.

Spend £500 on adwords as Rallport says, or use it to pay for a start of a social media campaign. Both will be of far more value to you and your customers.

Yell are a complete pain in the ... yeah.. we took up advertising with them in our early days, and have had none stop calls since from other india-based web design companies touting for work, trouble is, these phone calls sometimes lock up our office line, and make it hard for other clients to get through to us..

my advice would be... avoid them at all costs.. its simply not worth it.

A friend of mine advertises his business there. Has done so for over a year now and says it's a waste of money - not many leads compared to other advertising platforms.

£500 to advertise on their site is A LOT simply because people would need to physically go on their website first and then make the effort to search.. normally by location.

I'd say Google adwords is the best option ONLY if you use really well targeted keywords and offer (or promote) a niche design service then you can get a lot for your money.

If you're good with money and have a creative mind, there's a lot you can do (and with a higher success rate than yell.com) to advertise your business with £500 in one year.

PLUS: A marketer telling you you'd get 'all the business you want' can't be taken seriously. £500 a year can't get you all the business you want.. and what is 'all the business you want'? 5 clients a week.. 10 a week. He's clearly just trying to convince you to sign up without giving you any real statistics.

when did you last use yel.com to find anything?

lol very true... Cant remember the last time I actually used them for anything, would rather use Google lol

  • 1 year later...

First time poster on here and i came here previously to see what people were saying about Yell's websites and to be honest i was a bit swayed away from them.

After seeing my mates business get a website from yell and the return it brought him i decided to give it a bash (its not that much money £24 a month).

Just to let you know its a very basic website but i can change it everyday if i wish (i dont) and have found the staff very helpfull.

Im sure most of you on here are tech savvy - im not overly and the website i bought fits me perfectly and has paid itself back.

Just saying.

Yell profit from selling business information to other companies for marketing and I have lots of evidence of this. In a typical day I would get 10 phone calls from Charity's , Telecom Companies , IT Support Firms , Accountants and its non stop. I did some research into how they got my number and a few of the companies admitted it was Yell.com who supplied the data.
