Some may charge £250 for a 5 page site. Some may charge £1000. It depends on the quality of your SERVICE, after all it is a service as well as product (web design) your providing. If your giving them a CMS with the ability of updating the site themselves, have a high standard in design, are offering them ongoing support, stock photography etc then £250 to me, would be rather cheap. At the end of the day its about what YOU'RE HAPPY WITH. People charge different prices for the same thing but after a while you'll start to realise how you work, what you offer compared to other web designers and therefore how much you should charge. Some clients appreciate quality more than others. If you can look at some of the top sites and know you could create something as appealing visually and functionally then that MUST show withing your pricing. I've seen a lot of designers and companies charge HUGE amounts for work which looks really amateur as well as designers (normally new to the design 'business') offering high quality work for really LOW prices simply because they don't have confidence in their work. Its about these 3 things - QUALITY, FUNCTIONALITY and SUPPORT. If you have high standards in all three, £500 - £1000 sounds reasonable. If you need the money and think the price may be off putting to some clients don't 'sell yourself cheap' just offer them room to negotiate. Let them know what you offer and justify the costs.

Hi, What do you think should be the maximum file size for images used on a website to help load faster? Taking in mind there are various images you can use i.e. button images, background images, header images etc. What should be the maximum JPEG size to help retain close-to original image quality (i.e. a portfolio or background image) but also be able to load fast (i.e. within 5 seconds). 500kb.. 250kb.. less? Thanks!

A friend of mine advertises his business there. Has done so for over a year now and says it's a waste of money - not many leads compared to other advertising platforms. £500 to advertise on their site is A LOT simply because people would need to physically go on their website first and then make the effort to search.. normally by location. I'd say Google adwords is the best option ONLY if you use really well targeted keywords and offer (or promote) a niche design service then you can get a lot for your money. If you're good with money and have a creative mind, there's a lot you can do (and with a higher success rate than yell.com) to advertise your business with £500 in one year. PLUS: A marketer telling you you'd get 'all the business you want' can't be taken seriously. £500 a year can't get you all the business you want.. and what is 'all the business you want'? 5 clients a week.. 10 a week. He's clearly just trying to convince you to sign up without giving you any real statistics.

Yea I heard about this on the news.. They're bigger than Microsoft and we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Microsoft! That's a big achievement for Apple.
