I've made a new website... it's true, the design is not original but it had a lot of modifications from my part.

 

what do you think about it? i'm planning to add a lot of UNIQUE content daily and in my 3rd day since i'm up i've managed to get over 1,000 uniques, most of them from stumbleupon.

 

do you think this is a good niche? what do you think about the website?

not overly impressed with it - just looks like any old blog. The logo doesn't suit the rest of the design at all - the colours don't match at all and the font style doesn't relate to the style of the rest of the page - it looks like you've taken a blog template and just added your logo to it.

 

I also hate the ads by google thing being right at the top of the page so that I have to scroll down to actually read the content of the page - this is one my biggest annoyances with blogs/sites nowadays!

I have to agree with Eskymo here, the overall look is not bad (I like the colours!) but the logo doesn't do it justice. The ads are the worst thing for me and just get in the way of the content - if you must have advertising look at ways of making them as page "features" rather than stifling the content area with rubbish.

then..

 

1. To really stand out, spend some time on the header - it could be awesome.

 

2. Ditch the calender right away.

 

3. Get rid of the ads by google, you may think that it's a way of earning money but right now you should concentrate on generating quality content and traffic. Think about ads by google later - for now you will just put people off your site.

 

4. I don't know if you are using your own images, but if not then you need to find out about copyright. Sometimes, people will overlook this but if someone like Getty Images holds a copyright on a picture and they catch you using it without permission, they WILL come after you, and big time !

 

Hope that little 'two penneth' worth helps, not much probably, but it's a start...

 

thanks for your opinions. i know it's not too great with all those ads, but like that, i'm finding the website's potential. For example, in the first 5 days i already managed to earn those 10$ paid for the domain so everything from now on, would be on proffit for me.

 

i've hired an indian professional designer to draw a new logo that would fit my design perfectly in the next 24 hours.

 

i'll try to make the ads lower, only 2 small ad units between posts, and i'll try to earn a lot more content.

 

Eskymo, i know you're a professional web/flash designer, but i don't do that for money, i earn money from Google Ads so that's why i've got all those ads.

yeah i agree also, the ads are what i really hate!! lol.

 

But overall its "ok" but with a new logo and it should look better, ill look back soon to see the new logo.

yeah the logo isn't what i thought it would be, its not really a logo more of a image and a title but ok. Urm.... yeah it still doesn't match up with the colours very well, its better than what you had originally tho so its an improvement.

 

something else i just noticed id the footer, there is far too much empty space on the right of the links...

by the way it looks cleaner and more pro with out the ads

I think you could change the link coloring on the tag cloud to something more fitting with the rest of the design. Looks like it has the default blue right now, maybe change it to the skyblue as seen in the design elsewhere?

 

And the footer’s gradient (the “recent entries” section) is a bit rough, try smoothening it up a bit and make it span the whole box.

 

Anyways, for me this one looks like a good base to work on, keep it up.

You may want to consider just using text for your logo, unless you can manipulate images with some software like Photoshop you risk damaging your overall look of the site, text alone will portray a much better image than your current logo.

 

I think you need to ditch a search box (top one) and the calendar.
