  1. Hey guys, We've invested a lot of time and work in these last weeks into the new design of our luxury website and... we'd love to hear what the pros think abot it. Any tips to make it even better would help. Check it out: Luxatic
  2. @ sniderDK - thanks! We don't use a CDN and we've had a guy tweaking Apache a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I don't know exactly what he modified but it still didn't work.. when we have a big traffic spike the server just goes out of ram memory and almost dies. For example, we're linked by Sports Illustrated twice a month and they send around 40k visitors in just a couple of hours. We can't go for cloud hosting because the site uses a lot of bandwidth, like +5TB/month and that would be at least 10 times more expensive than what we're currently paying for this server. The site earns a bit, but we have editors and so on and can't really afford to pay over $1k per month for hosting only. Regarding the server control panel, we're using Parallels Plesk on CentOs. Maybe you could send me your skype Id and we'll discuss more. @ renaissence-design - thanks for your answer! I was also thinking that nginx would conflict with the mod_rewrite from Apache and I don't know exactly if the links would be fine in case I'd change to nginx completely. In case you're wondering, the site in question is brosome
  3. Hey there, I'd really appreciate if any of you guys could help me on this problem because I don't know what to do.. I have a really popular entertainment site based on Wordpress, hosted on its own dedicated server from hetzner.de. The server is unmanaged (so I have to do all the hard work) but judging by its specs and what the guys from that company told me, it should handle even 300,000 visitors/day. Here are the server's specs: Intel® Xeon® E3-1245 Quadcore incl. Hyper-Threading Technology RAM 16 GB DDR3 RAM ECC Hard disks 2 x 3 TB SATA 6 Gb/s HDD 7200 rpm (Software-RAID 1) Enterprise class NIC 1 Gbit OnBoard connected at 100 Mbit Now I usually have an average traffic of around 20-25,000 visitors/day but I have days with huge traffic spikes when the site has 70-80 even 100,000 visitors/day and in those days Apache eats ALL RAM memory and the server is just jammed with 67mb of memory left. So instead of being uber happy because the traffic is that big, I'm freaking angry because the server is mostly down and I'm surely losing precious visitors. The site is well optimized, good design, uses w3 total cache + memcached but I really don't know what to do to make it handle a lot of traffic simultaneously. I've seen that it can't handle more than 1,200 uniques in the same time per site and I think that might be Apache's fault. What should I do? Move to nginx? or hire someone to optimize the server? [As you can see, I'm not an expert in server admin, I just do basic stuff) Thanks in advance! LE: Oops, sorry, just seen I should have posted this here: http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/forum/31-server-management/
  4. Thanks for your answers. The site is registered to GWT and I don't have any indexing errors and also the sitemap was submitted to Google but it still won't index me. Maybe the problem will disappear in time but my patience is fading each day.
  5. I know I haven't been active here for years but when it's time to get the right answers for a certain problem, only an active webmaster community could help. I've asked Google Support and I've asked in Google Forums too but it seems those guys aren't too skilled when it comes to judge and solve problems. So, the story starts like this: I own a mens entertainment site [Men Tag] and even though we've got a lot of articles, fully unique and a lot of backlinks from high quality related sites we just have around 200 indexed pages at the moment. We're constantly linked from other high authority sites and social bookmarking sites and even though all that happens our pages are still NOT indexed. We've got around 35,000 inlinks at the moment. We haven't passed over 200 indexed pages for at least 2 months and in Yahoo we have over 1300 indexed pages. That's probably the number of pages that should've been indexed in Google too. The site is over 6 months old, we've got sitemap there too, no errors but we're not getting indexed as we would like. It's a bit frustrating and odd in the same time. Any suggestions?
  6. Each day there are a lot of people that start using Joomla CMS and the need for free joomla templates is higher and higher. Since i haven't seen too many websites that have free joomla templates categorized, with easy navigation... i've decided to make one You will probably ask me why i've chosen wordpress to create a site about joomla templates well, it loads faster and i think it's better for seo too and easier to use. Each template has link to it's designer, link to the designer's demo page, a thumbnail made by me and the download link till now, only possitive opinions [expect ads] but i want to hear from you too maybe you will find this site useful. visit: Free Joomla Templates
  7. i've had this web directory since december.. and a lot of people said that i could do a lot more with it. the directory solution is unique, i've changed the design completely and it has 3 color themes. I've written all categories to be Search Engine Friendly because i know how important is this for search engines. Users could submit their links in up to 5 different categories and if they register, they could modify their links whenever they want. The directory has only PR2 now but i've made a little investment and bought a couple of quality backlinks and one of those is even PR7 so i guess my PR will be bigger in the future. For now, users can submit link, description, meta keywords, meta description and thumbnail for free. visit: http://dir32.com Any opinions or suggestions about my directory? PS: those "things" with "site 1,2,3,4,5,6" or "Friends" are spots where i hope some websites will want to advertise.
  8. new updates: new logo/header and a lot less ads i hope you enjoy it! cheers.
  9. thanks for your opinions. i know it's not too great with all those ads, but like that, i'm finding the website's potential. For example, in the first 5 days i already managed to earn those 10$ paid for the domain so everything from now on, would be on proffit for me. i've hired an indian professional designer to draw a new logo that would fit my design perfectly in the next 24 hours. i'll try to make the ads lower, only 2 small ad units between posts, and i'll try to earn a lot more content. Eskymo, i know you're a professional web/flash designer, but i don't do that for money, i earn money from Google Ads so that's why i've got all those ads.
  10. I've made a new website... it's true, the design is not original but it had a lot of modifications from my part. what do you think about it? i'm planning to add a lot of UNIQUE content daily and in my 3rd day since i'm up i've managed to get over 1,000 uniques, most of them from stumbleupon. do you think this is a good niche? what do you think about the website? here's the link Fancy Tuning
  11. well, the main reason why i've build this website is because i want to sell it in the future. there are 2 websites: soft32.com & games32.com, both evaluated at millions of $ and they offered me 100$ for my domain. i refused them, and i've made this directory and i think in the future i can get a lot more on it. i wanted to try something different, because there are many directories with PhpLD out there.
  12. Dir32.com is a webdirectory made by me i'm at the beginning now, but if you like it and you can stumble it, i will thank you all. Dir32.com is a directory of websites that contains listings for numerous categories: arts, business, computers, internet, education, entertainment, government, health, news, media, recreation, reference, regional, science, social science, society and culture and a lot of sub-categories. You can add your link for free in upto 5 categories and if you are a registered user you can modify your listings anytime you want. Also, you can add to your links a description, metadata, icon and picture all for FREE. You can search for listings in our directory and you can also browse it alphabetically or by category. visit: http://dir32.com if you have any opinions/suggestions they are welcome.
  13. could you tell me which is cheapest .co.uk domain register where you can pay by PayPal? don't include 123reg, europeregistry, godaddy or namecheap pls.
  14. i've used Hostmonster for about 6 months... i'm really active on the internet and their server was never down. cheap prices too you can also try GoDaddy.
  15. cool. that was the only flaw i could find to Gmail: it's design... i really don't know why google doesnt make a skin for it. anyway, that air theme is the nicest
  16. i've indexed my websites on Google, MSN and Yahoo too. from all, MSN was the one that indexed it slower [it took it about 1 week until i got my website indexed]. i think it's good to link your websites to as many search engines you could find more visitors for you like that
  17. i hope he didn't asked for myspace, hi5, facebook profile if you're trying to design a website and you're not sure of it's succes, you could just try http://godaddy.com you buy hosting for 1-2 months, cheap domain name... and then you have 2 choices: 1. either upload your own website 2. build one with their free tool good luck
  18. Well, if it said there "© copyright - and company's name" the company that made the website doesn't has copyright on it. they've designed the website for them, they were paid to do that, and after they finished designing it, contract ended.
  19. well it's really great if you use a contract. i use one, and always request 50% money upfront and 50% after i finish job. sometimes i've had some problems with clients that didnt had money in their account at those exact dates, but in few days they've paid me. anyway, one advice: don't do anything for free.. as you may be kicking yourself if they constantly want changes.
  20. well from what i've seen your website is only 16 days old... i think if you want to sell it, it's better for you to wait let's say few months, get some users online... make traffic, make few sales, and then you can sell it at a fair price. now, if i were your potential client, i won't pay more than 100$ on that website.
  21. that's waaay too much (In my own opinion). Still it's a nice logo, it goes with the name of your website. Usually when i'm out of time... and don't have inspiration for a logo or a design, i just post on other forums and chose from 3 - 4 design.
  22. i think it's a nice website... it's true that a bit more colour will be a plus for it. i downloaded few fonts from your website, and probably i'll visit it later to see what new fonts you're uploading.
  23. well i think it's a good choice... websites that only sell links can't have bigger PR than other websites where it took a lot of work for design, coding, implement... and stuff like that. i think in Pay-Per-Click cases it will do the same too.
  24. i've heard that it's possible now to receive money from Google AdSense via Western Union. i've read general stuff from google but has anyone tried? how fast payment is?
  25. i really don't understand what's the purpose of those 2 blue rectangles in the left and right... "Type and Wait to Search" should have different colour because dark grey on black background... that's hard to read i'd say, maybe you should do it blue like text used on news. Portfolio - i like your work i didn't had time to watch them all as for forum... i'd say it would have been better if you would have sticked to that blue colour theme.
