Which social network is better and why? I'm just wondering.

 

If there was a new social network, how can it be better than myspace, facebook and bebo combined? What would you like to see?

Facebook has got all areas covered really apart from a reliable chat service! It sounds as if you are looking to try and start a social network yourself?? Brave!

facebook seems to be the best depending on what your using it for but for how long ? its fast becoming a site for stupid stuff and to many request and pages that are just stupid, funny to start with but just total waist of time, i can see why people are moving/using twitter more.

I'm trying and failing so far, starting a social network. The software I'm using is awful and it's suppose to be one of the best social networking scripts.

Facebook and Twitter are the only social network sites I use - the others are just crap now.

How are the others crap? Facebook seems to look quite boring, at least with myspace you can customize the look. Some go overboard with the design.

 

I think facebook and myspace are the best social networks. Each got their own strengths and weaknesses.

I am not a teenager, I don't feel the need to replace the background of my profile page with something tacky or some oversized photo that takes forever to load even on a broadband connection.

 

I like the simplicity of Facebook and Twitter. MySpace and Bebo are too commercialised now - any advertising on Facebook is quite subtle and not "in your face".

Myspace is hideous. They're totally missing out on a great opportunity too. Myspace used to be the site to be on if you were a musician, but their music player is sh!te, their page load times are ridiculous because there's no comment pagination and they allow comments to contain massive image files, plus they let people overload their profiles with whatever they please. The end result is a totally unusable site.

 

Also agree with comments about fb getting bloated with crap. Having said that, anywhere you find large amounts of people gathering you will also be subjected to inane nonsense. 'Tis human nature!

 

In my opinion, the ideal social network would be very similar to facebook, but with a music player for musicians. Also an artist search facility.

I use facebook mostly, I prefer it to myspace and bebo because it's simple and doesn't allow people to bugger around with the backgrounds etc. Nothing worse than trying to see someone's myspace with the annoying flashing GIFs everywhere. I just don't like the apps on facebook, it's annoying when there's always that one person on everyone's facebook who seems to have nothing better to do than fill your wall with pointless photos or 'gifts'.

same way myspace and most sites do just not right in your face, and they have there own pay per click/pay per impression so you can creat your own ad for site or fan page, they also get money from people filling out forms that daft people think are fun, like get free condoms lol and taking out a phone contract the list is big and are basicly a PPC and affiliate.

Myspace is the only modern (web2.0) type of website that looks like it was built by a teenager in 1996. (can anyone please send me an animated gif of the flying toaster, seem to have misplaced mine)

I've never used bebo and only used myspace once, years ago. I only use facebook & twitter now but facebook irritates me with everyone banging on about farmville and those rubbish games lol

I heard AOL are considering closing or selling off Bebo as it's not making them much money these days?

Out of the 3, I basically Live on Facebook, on there everyday. Although i Do like how u can have Skins For bebo. i wish facebook Could do that. know u can have app for it, but it seems to slow it down.

Yeah, Bebo are being shut down despite being massive in Ireland. think AOL lost about £250M on that one. whoop.

 

As for the rest, twitter, facebook and myspace. They kinda have different uses for me really.

 

Twitter, an open network - good for finding people with similiar interests.

Facebook, much better for close friends, sharing photos etc.

Myspace, great for finding new bands etc - a few free track to listen to.

 

Essentially the decline of Myspace came with the heavy advertising and grinding page loads. But it is still a powerhouse. if not for our age group anymore.

 

Facebook mainly started off being uni students has actually started dropping off in interest for me now that I am coming up to leave uni. Maybe that is just because of the way I have been used it, but I dont get much use of the aps and/or games on it. Again the ads are becoming annoying - though they have yet to start talking at me.

 

Twitter, the darling of social media at the moment. It has no ads yet, which makes it as cool as myspace and facebook were before they had ads. But it is soo hard to find your friends on it, unless you already know their user name.

Facebook is widely covered now, but it is not the best. Few people who use facebook run it very well, and some enterprise adverting on facebook. Content of facebook is becoming roughly.

Facebook is better for the clean layout and nice colours etc vs Myspace with it's nasty code and scary layouts, , but I find using it and navigating facebook(even understanding half of it) a total nightmare, Get rid of all those daft apps, and pokes and prods etc and god knows what, make it about REAL communication, and easy to use..and I I'll join:)

Wife spends a while on facebook, just reading about inane stuff that other people seem to feel the need to comment about. It's kinda quite interesting in a "Hello magazine" kind of way I suppose. But must admit personally the social networking stuff leaves me a bit cold.

I use MySpace to host the few tracks I've recorded, but only really as a place to keep the music rather than actually wanting anyone to listen to it. Don't care about the ads and clunkiness - is serves a purpose.

 

As previous posters say - horses for course. They all have their uses in different ways. Just social networking is not really my cup of tea.

I used to be on hi5. Now I like facebook.

Myspace never working ok, always errors.

I'm currently doing a Socia Media course on how to use it to benefit your business.

And so far it looks like a lot of time and effort is needed.

I use facebook for personal use and have just set up a fan page for my business.

I won't plug it yet but maybe soon...

Twitter is supposed to be the next best.

In my eyes, simply Facebook.

 

Reasons:

1. Bebo is for Kids

2. Myspace is just ugly and full of spam

3. Facebook is very easy to use and is simply attractive. You can do everything and it probably has more of your friends and family on it than any other social networking website.

Facebook the only downside is farmville/town

Get bands / music artists on Facebook instead of MySpace and MySpace is dead ground. Facebook is an excellent all in one social network. I've always loved it's clean design approach; the total opposite of MySpace's idea.

Who did you hear it from?

 

It doesn't "show Facebook isn't that great" it shows that some people aren't intelligent enough to be using something so simple. I don't understand how you can say that article points to Facebook being bad? It's shame really that when Facebook dropped their lite version they didn't put in place a Facebook for Dummies instead.

 

Myspace was the king and especially for musicians but most of the success was built on the back of record company lies. It's also now full of adverts. Same as Youtube, great concept now ruined by Google and their intrusive advertising. Soon to be coming to iPhone I believe.

 

Bebo is for kids....well was and probably won't be.

 

 

As for starting your own, what's your USP?
