January 12, 201016 yr basically, i own a business website and on one of the pages, the customer can tap in their name, click "submit" and and i get an email which then i can respond to....however....the "submit" button and what happens after that is hosted on i-ports.co.uk and the guy that owns the server has somehow advertised his own site on my website and i cant get rid of it. the customers also get an email when they click "submit" to them, advertising HIS business, which is the same business as mine. I know ZERO about web design, but i do know i just want to get rid of the parts of my site that goes onto i-ports.co.uk and use a different server instead.....please please please can someone help me out with this, i'm absolutely desperate. cheers Matt
January 12, 201016 yr Author This is illegal surely, I'd switch host's if I was you. the host it ok, it's Telivo and nominet etc, but i got a guy to design a form for me and a script and he hosts it on his own server, but hes opened same business as me and when people enter their email into a box, the info goes to my email and his.....he's got full control coz he got his own server that he's hosting my "submit" form script or something? I DESPERATELY need someone to host that past for me...95% of the site is fine. cheers Matt
January 12, 201016 yr So basically, by desperate help, you mean that you need to find someone that will host the script for you... ? I don't know where you're hosting your website, but they should allow you to host your own files, including the file that submits your query.
January 12, 201016 yr Author So basically, by desperate help, you mean that you need to find someone that will host the script for you... ? I don't know where you're hosting your website, but they should allow you to host your own files, including the file that submits your query. thats correct, becuase the guy that made the script for me and hosts it on his server called i-ports.co.uk, has altered it, so that when people enter their email address in a box, then click "submit" they automatically get an email from him advertising his business as well as mine and saying how he's cheaper etc. Anyone here that can design it and host the script for me please? Cash is waiting!! cheers Matt
January 16, 201016 yr The first thing you can do NOW is find another (legitimate) company to host your website - simply do a Google search for "hosting", there are also some members on WDF that run hosting companies. Once you have a new host sorted out go into your domain control panel and change the name servers to those of your new host - the new host will provide you with the nameserver details you need to point your website to. Then, you can either have a go at editing the script/HTML yourself on your contact form or put up a request on WDF in the Looking to Hire forum and someone will be able to sort it out for you.
January 16, 201016 yr is it just a contact form you need? Send me a PM and I'll sort one out for you.
January 19, 201016 yr contact form and hosting can be done sir if you really desperate and i will not do the dirty as your other guy did, that is a dreadful case of dishonouring you, glove slap him!!! :-0
January 22, 201016 yr what an odd set up to have all of your site on one host and your contact script on another. I would remove the contact page straight away and replace with a temporary email and an explanation; the page is being upgraded or words to that effect. Or just remove it all together, no point sending any more business his way.
January 22, 201016 yr I've heard of this set up before...I suppose it's for those people on really basic hosting packages and need to find a service which sends the email on their behalf. I did a quick search for 'email contact form service' and there are a few out there. If I was you I'd find a developer (such as one of the guys above) who can provide a script for you to host locally. You can rest assured though, the guy you dealt with in the past who started taking liberties...with such an deceitful approach he isn't going to be very successful and will go out of business very quickly. Good luck on sorting it out.
January 22, 201016 yr I've got my own very simple php sendmail() script which sanitises posted fields emails the the form to you, is that all you need? You will need to host the script on your own server though. PM me if you want me to sketch up a similar script for your use, but look at darrenbale's post before PM'ing me - he offered his service first.
January 23, 201016 yr ... PM me if you want me to sketch up a similar script for your use, but look at darrenbale's post before PM'ing me - he offered his service first. ... Wow, that was so fair on your part. Well put andyl!
January 25, 201016 yr Wow, that was so fair on your part. Well put andyl! I'm not sure if that's sarcasm?! If not, thanks for noticing
