I'm about to embark on a sailing trip around the Med and photograph the journey as i go. I am looking for someone with experience of web design who would like to update their portfolio and help with designing a professional website (copyright specific etc) in which to sell my photograghs. If anyone is interested, please contact me :)

Hi Hannah,

You would be best of posting in "Looking to Hire...." regardless of pay. A word of warning though, looking for someone to work for FREE on a commercial* project is highly frowned upon and the response is likely to be hostile. So I'd suggest if you are looking to make money from this project then you invest some of your own money in to it.

*commercial because you are looking to sell a product and make money from the site.

Thankyou for your advice, however, i am not looking for investors. I am purely looking for someone with the basic knowledge who's looking to expand their portfolio. I am setting up the website more for a love of photography rather than a means of income. But due to my lack of knowledge in web designing, i am finding it more difficult.

Unfortunately morgano is right. Most people here do this for a living so taking 10-20 hours out of their working week for no recompense isn't really an option, especially when the recession is still biting. Put it another way, if someone did do the work for you at no cost, would you repay them for the equivilent amount of hours doing their garden and cleaning their house?

If you can't afford to pay someone, the very least you could do is offer something worthwhile in return - it's called bartering :)

I dont think anyone is actually asking for figures, but you should clarify if there is going to be remuneration for the web designers time, if not then your proposal will be greeted with hostility as stated above, if you put the shoe on the other foot, are you prepared to offer your services for free to whoever you work for as it may look good on your CV?

I dont think people are reading the thread in the correct manner. If people are only prepared to discuss remuneration before what is ultimately involved in the project, then i can be assured not to work with such people. It is plain that money is not an issue here considering i am about to embark on a sailing trip. No mention of experience, capabilitites etc, thus far. I am hopeful those willing to discuss the matter in a fruitful way will respond as i have had interest on other forums. This is not purely a money venture, yet for the right person it could prove profitable.

I don't think anyone asked to discuss remuneration only to confirm this would be a paid project.

Hi Hannah,

I would be interested in this. Could you please send me some further information about your requirements?

Many Thanks

Darren

Sounds like an interesting project, feel free to drop me a line with point of contact or some information, ideas, aspirations for the project etc.

Kind regards, Jacob

Personally I dont think you are reading the replies correctly, I simply asked if there was going to be payment available, so people who were interested could establish if this was paid work or not. A lot of people on this forum are web designers on a full time basis and need to make a decision as to weather they could take on work on an unpaid basis. And frankly saying that money isnt an issue because your going sailing is not a proper indication of the probability of a profitable or paying venture.

Hi Hannah,

I thought you where asking "If anyone is interested", so don't we first show our interest then discuss possible payments next ( on or off forum).

I'm interested please sent me some details.

Regards Pete

it just saves time and effort if the op shows from the outset if its paid work or not then it saves time for both parties. if you were a designer who cant/wont work for free its a waste of time getting the details only to discover you wont get paid. so I hope that answers your somewhat sarcastic point..

I wasnt asking to see detailed accounts, just a simple yay or nay as to weather it was paid work or a freebie. thats all nothing more nothing less.

Basically, i have set up a hosting site and web domain. With sample pictures i want to develop the website as a means to sell the photos. If the right designer is willing to help with the site, a profit-share basis may be available to that person. I want the site to be ready and efficient within 3 months (by which time i shall have photos from my trip to display0. Of course i can design the site myself but with the help of an experienced designer, the site would benefit from a more professional outlook. I am not expecting anyone to employ full time hours on this project as i appreciate it will not immediately prove profitable (until the site is up and running).

May i add to this post that as a moderator you need to consider your manners. There was no problems with the first post i made, and other members agree via PM. I suggest you reconsider your position in this forum, negative comments do not help anyone, and your comments were negative to say the least. Thanks to those members who have come forward offering the support/advice without mentioning money within minutes.

I would also suggest if your time is so important, if you spend less time writing thousands of negative posts, you may be able to clean your house! And it goes without saying you will add to my negative feedback as you already have, but forums are for HELP :)

Frankly there is no point in discussing this project with those who's only concerns are money. I have recieved interest from a few members of the forum who are interested in the project more than the payment. This is a good indication of someone i will be able to WORK with, not simply pay.

I stand by my comments, and they weren't negative at all. If you read them, they simply point out some issues that may have hindered you in finding someone to assist you, and some that may have put some people off from following through. Fortunately you've now had some offers of help and I hope you can work with one of them.

Do I write thousands of negative posts? :)

So you want to sell your Photographs, I take it you are happy to take the money from the sale of the pictures, but not happy to pay a web designer to design the site they are sold on.

As you state money is not an issue as you are going sailing, is that not what you said above? so why can you not pay a web designer to build your site, the normal route is to enquire around several designers and get quotes in, then pay someone a fair price for their work instead of hawking for freebies on a forum, which is basically what you are doing as by your own admission you can amply afford to hire a designer. if you had faith in your project you would put your money where your mouth is.

You keep going on about how this project is not about money, so why sell the photos, why not just share them for free if you are unconcerned about money.

Really what you are doing is advertising for someone to work for you, how many job adverts have you seen that say "PAY! you might get some you might not" I would bet on none. it might be an idea to stop insulting everyones intelligence and just admit that you are trying to get something for nothing.

A lot of people on here do this for a job, not for a bit of a laugh.

Of the mark completely, not even justifiable with a response. To those of you who have expressed an interest in the project, i shall be in contact directly. Thankyou to those people, its greatly appreciated that some can see the project for what it is meant to be.
