hey everyone- i'm new here, but i i've been around the forums for a little. It's helped alot in designing a website im making. Me and my friend want to make a porn site to make a little cash. We are living in the Caribbean and beautiful women are everywhere. We could make really cool videos. However, we aren't professionals of anything relating to web design. I'm good with computers and am using dream weaver making a website from a template i found online. I'm learning slowly. I know there is alot of things to learn to get it up and running. where i could get some good information for making membership content and selling e-content. I have heard buy it now paypal is the easiest way. Anyone else have porn website experience? well thanks alot in advance.

I've worked on more adult sites than you can shake a stick at so here's some advice.

 

1. The adult web is a very saturated market, so to succeed you need three things; unique content, marketing and perseverence

2. You can't use Paypal for adult site payments, the biggest adult friendly payment gateway is CCbill - they will manage all subscriptions and even affiliate payout for you.

3. Don't go straight into making a membership/subscription site. Make a "free" site first (or 2, or 3, or 10), learn how to market it and get traffic to it. Use adult affiliate programs for your content to *try* and generate some income - it's not easy but if you can make all this work it will be the best thing you learnt.

4. Learn about how the adult web works - find some adult webmaster sites, read articles and join their forums

5. If you're shooting your own content and you're not successful with your own sites you can always resell your content to ther adult webmasters, there's always a need for "exclusive"!

We were going to make the content unique by making it a blog on travels in the carribean islands. Like a reality porn website brought up to a more realistic level. We would be happy to make two thousand dollars a month-which i think is a achievable goal with alot more potential. How high can ad revenue go up to? Thanks alot agian.

Ad revenue can be very high indeed. It would be best to try and get advertising options from sites that serve adult orientated adverts, rather than say your average Google Adsense account. On a website I use to run (not an adult site) I would regularly make $85-$100 a week, that was pretty impressive considering the relatively small amount of traffic I received (that was from Google Adsense).

 

Sometimes, the best way to make the highest possible amount of ad revenue is to use two or more companies at the same time (make sure to check with each company that they allow this, some wont). Have the adverts that are going to pay more per click in the most viewable area of the site.

 

However, don't forget that adverts can turn some users away. If the site is literally filled with popups and the like, a lot of people would just leave.

Hello Alex, I'd go with the guys travelling the Caribbean idea, not that i'd watch it, it's just that realistic pornography would probably be the way to go. If you've seen some of the pornographic websites around, you'll see that you don't need to be a genius to design them, and I wouldn't go free either.

I dont understand why anyone pays for it, there is so much free stuff everywhere. and tbh it only takes a couple of minutes.

The "reality/travelling/blog" idea sounds like a plan but bear in mind that the whole "reality" style adult site phase is probably just leaving its prime time. Saying that, "exclusive" always sells.

 

Making money in adult is not easy - despite popular myths. You say you want to make 2k a month? Yes that is possible but you will have to work like mad to get there, you also need to factor in your costs;

 

For arguments sake let's look at a tpyical scenario...

 

1. For hosting lots of large movie files you'll probably need a dedicated server

- say $99/month

2. You will need regular site updates, say you have a modest 10 video updates a month

- 10 model shoots = say $1000/month ($100 per model per shoot)

3. Travel costs, fuel, food etc

- say $500/month

 

...so now you have to find $1599 costs per month before you have any income.

Not sure where you got 50% from but CCbill starts at 16% transaction fee and then reduces for high volume sale. It's been the same for as long as I can remember.

The website I was referring to has a monthly turnover of $50,000. Segpay's fees are fixed.

I consider myself somewhat a connoisseur on adult websites, and I'll tell you that

 

1) High definition content is a great selling point.

 

2) Regular updates (allowing for RSS/email alerts) are great.

 

3) A variety of models is great, as is making it CLEAR you have a variety of models.

 

Start out free, make it their regular, then offer subscription plans (start out cheap).

No there are a LOT of free sources, they make money off their ads. Most of which are virus0free if you know where to go, but there are maliscious connotations between pornography and 'viruses'.

Be careful with mainstream hosts as not many accept adult content and you're likely to have your account closed. Your best bet is to use an adult friendly host who will understand your needs, and be flexible enough to accomodate upgrades when you need them.

 

Some good adult hosts to look at, Way3 is a relative newbie but the others have been around since the 1990's and have a solid reputation in the adult industry...

Absolutely. "Porn" sites that contain malicious code aren't run by real "adult" webmasters, they're all part of the same networks that run warez, scams and the rest of the junk. It could be porn, viagra, the infamous "brittany spears video" type spam email links or anything else that they use to lure surfers to their sites.

Yep 50/50 revshare is the standard thing to do. In adult it's all about traffic, the more people get referred to a paysite the more will sign up - it's a numbers thing, law of averages and all that. I've seen some new (fresh) sites convert at 1 in 50 visitors while others are 1 in 10,000. Of course webmaster referrals at 15% are the thing to go for

There are endless opportunity's for large revenue in a huge array of different niches. People wonder why there is a rise in rape etc, and It's pretty damn obvious. Not only is it representing women as objects but it's corrupting peoples minds (see the link below, just one example.) Just my take on the situation anyway.

Yes there are many ways to earn an income of the web. Porn at the end of the day is just one of those ways.

 

I can't accept the idea that the internet has caused an increase in sex crimes - erotica has been around for thousands of years in many cultures without any problems at all. You only have to go to the far east (India/Nepal) and you'll see ancient carvings and public imagery of everything you'll find the in Kama Sutra, plus a lot more that would make your toes curl.

 

Whenever porn/erotica is metioned some people will always shout the "female exploitation" argument. What about the men, especially gay men? What about two girls gettin' it on? What about female domination? If anything, online porn has liberalised many from the repression people have been going though over the last 150 years or so, and possibly beyond that depending how long you think the far right Chistian church has infiltrated your part of the world. There are thousands of people around the world who run their own "amateur" web sites, shoot their own photos and movies, and have fun doing it - can you say they are being exploited?

If I were you I'd do some market research. The group you're going to be aiming for are like 24+? I don't know of anyone, who knows anyone who's ever paid a penny for pornography, I think that's a very older thing?

 

Therefore you should try finding out your exact demographic, and what they're going to be looking for.
