It's really not a nice looking website at all, it's too dark, and the use of font is just wrong.

If you're going to develop it, I'd stop showing this one and get to work immediately on developing a new website.

Looks terrible, and it looks like most things have just been ripped right off Erowid.

Hi

Always be proud of what you design, because alterations are all part of the game.

It does need brightening up, but it reads well and you will soon put that to right.

War is terrible, so don’t be put off by that word or discouraged.

I look forward to seeing it when the changes are made.

Good luck.

I half like the idea of the website. The content is put together well but the design is very 1996.

Out of interest, you say the website is non-judgemental, would you say you:

a. Are personally against drugs and would like to let people know the facts?

b. Don't really have a stand on them and you are infact completely impartial?

c. Agree with drug use?

I am not 100% sure what your objective is. Perhaps if you promote it a little better. I understand you have legal substances such as Alcohol and Tobacco on there but it seems to me to be a tactic by a pro-user to show people that these legal drugs are just as (or in most cases more) harmful as illegal narcotics. Leading me to believe you may agree with the latter.

That is a completely impartial question as I do not smoke, drink or take drugs.

Lol, you posted on the other forum yesterday, so i'll just quote what i said there, and refer you to askfrank again :p

Oh i can't quote it.... it seems to have been deleted (or misplaced)

You remember what was said? Urmmm

I mentioned consistency (i.e forums don't fit the theme of the site) and the fact the shop is represented on your site to be your own, when it's actually just a referral.

colour scheme needs addressing, and consistency, i think you've now changed the font.

Edit: Turns out it was this forum, not the other one :p

From what i gather, it's about narcotics. I had to zoom in just to read the text. The design could do with a rethink, it's grammatically poor (avoid multiple and's in the same sentence for example).

Plus the informations incomplete, i can think of at least a dozen drugs missing (puts me in a good light doesn't it :p

The forums have no flow/connection with the rest of the site, and your linking to a shop through an affiliate link, yet the context you put it in it seems as if your passing it off as your own.

Take a look at that, and make some notes.

I can read the font tonight, which i'm guessing you've changed, which means your taking advice which is good :p

I really dislike it when people post for help and then disagree with what everyone says because 'they're right', just winds me up (sorry rant, not aimed at anyone).

Did you say you've already got a redesign in the works?

I have edited the homepage of the site and the chemicals and plants are still in tables in the main a to z index as this is the tidiest way to keep them. Talk to Frank is a too uninformed and has limited content, the layout is ok but not brilliant, it would be a very poor decision to look at that before designing any site related or not.

Thanks for the advice though, Forums to change soon and a tidy up of the A to Z

This new design is stolen, I've seen it before, unless you bought the design?

I don't like the navigation where you don't know what page your going to visit on the site before you click the eye.

Sorry but to me it just seems like a poor rip off of the old Tokyo Plastic site. With the growing plant and clicking on bits on the plant...ect...but theirs was well planned and worked with the nature of the site, while your site has no thought put into the content.

So no amount of flash and good graphics could stop this from being a bad site, until you stop and think of the user and the content that they need to know where things are and what the site is about. Good design is only as good as the way you display what needs to be seen...in the case of most websites (yours included in this) it would be the information, and the way you display that just isn't effective.

So step back from it and look at what is needed to make this website as useful to the people who need to use it as possible, rather than looking at it to be the next big experimental thing...experimental is only good if it works with the site, not against it.

I think you miss understand the purpose of the website. It is information on Psychoactive plants and chemicals. If you look at any of the artwork produced by artists that used these chemicals as inspiration you will see a link look particularly at the art work of Steadman. Strange images are often produced this is actually designed as a monster. That Tokyo site you mention is Flash and SWF animation at its best

The design is called Osiris of witch I do have rights to use.

My personal view is that I like to take a Liberal view on drug users I don't think they ruin society. Of course I would also like to Identify the fact that some drugs are indeed very harmful to users and some are not so harmful. It has been argued by the BBC that some drugs that are legal are far worse and vice verse.

I think the British public are mis-informed about these chemicals and I am compiling free information for them to see.

Sometimes an informative site is much better accomplished with a nice simple page layout, white background, text, links on the left, banner and logo. It may not be cutting edge navigation or design, but the number one priority is being able to read and browse through information and know what you are looking at. When I visited I wasn't sure what it was about within seconds. If I don't know what it's about then I leave - I'd rather know what it was about and browse a little more, even if originally I wasn't too interested in the topic.

I really don't like it.

There's no point in using flash. There never is.

If you want to make a standaard website like allmost all the other websites on the web.

Yeps then there is no point in using flash.

If you want a website with some cool effects etc then you should use flash..

and time will learn ;)

Do you know what's very annoying? I find myself staring at a black dot on the screen, and for about 1 second im waiting to see what's gonna happen next... before i then realise i must click this black dot.

That is 1 second too long.

I'm sorry to say that I really don't like it.

I do like flash sites, but to work they really have to be amazing... top quality flash sites can look so classy and really high end, but this just looks poor. Sorry mate - I would try re-designing in XHTML+CSS

Sorry.

The thing with informational sites is people want the information right away.

Flash is all fine and good if the site is meant to be experimental or adds something to the site. Personally i think you have seen this template and thought it looked cool so used it for this site, when really it isn't the best template for what the site is trying to achieve. A design is only as good as how well it gets the message across. Yes it is an ok template, but you can't just use a template because it looks cool...well you can but if that is your only reason for using this template then its not a good enough reason. If you site is meant to be informative then shouldn't it be easy to figure out where the information is rather than having to click blindly?

So how about instead of asking for us to review this template that you have decided to use, why don't you first answer this question for us.

How does this template that you have picked from the net, benefit the content of your site and make the information as quickly accessible to the people who need to read it?

All I get is a Flash movie with a big black dot ;)

Lol I got stuck at exact same point. Glad I wasnt the only one... Turns out the user has to click on the black dot.

I disagree mate.

If you want cool things on your website use JavaScript. Better for SEO, less CPU intensive, smaller filesizes reducing load times (for those who use the timelines in Flash instead of ActionScript), less memory leaks and atleast there is an alternative for people that dont have JavaScript enabled.

this was about flash ;)

i did not mention it wasnt possible with any other program language.

But i'm sure as3.0 is going to win allot of people's attention in webdevelopment

btw: lets stay on topic and discuss this in another topic?
