Tips on how to increase ranking

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

hope you are all well.

I'm pretty new here but enjoying the help so far! So thank you. :)

My question today is how can i improve my google ranking for the search "glasgow web design" or along those lines or even scotland....? It would be ideal to get it on the first page of google when that is searched!

Any help appreciated. I am very keen to learn seo as i realize how important it is. I need more organic hits and so i can offer seo with my sites as well. I would love ot see every site i build to be of high google ranking.

Here is my site: http://www.prettyklicks.com

Thank you,

Stefpretty

I've had a quick look at your site and here are some tips...

Is it possible to get the copy that says Web Design/ Graphic Design etc as actual copy rather than within an image, same with the copy on the right, try adding titles to the image links.

Instead of calling your pages websites.php call it glasgow_web_design.php instead, this goes for all the pages.

Get the word Glasgow in your title, in fact the word Glasgow only appears in your meta tags so get it in the copy as well.

I think getting on the first page of Google for Scotland webs design is pretty much undoable with such a small site but if you get the phrase "glasgow web design" in where you can you stand a chance with that.

Make sure you're on Google maps in Glasgow.

Submit a sitemap to Google via their Business Solutions link.

I hope that helps.

OMG @ Spammy title!

You need to focus each page. eg your title for your webdesign page is...

<title>Web Design, Graphic Design, Branding Design, Print Design, Marketing, Photography, Glasgow - Pretty Klicks</title>

Why?? people looking for that page just want webdesign, no one will be searching for all of those keywords at the same time. Something more suitable would be...

<title>Web Design Glasgow - wonderful words about how effective you are - Pretty Klicks</title>

The same for photography and graphic design.

Also stick some footer links in pointing to your pages with the keywords your tageting for them.

I love your work by the way.

oh yeah. if this is your portfolio site which is trying to sell you to potential clients dont advertise on it. it gives a bad impression.

Thank you for your advice i will apply it tonight! :)

Also thank you for the compliment very much appreciated and i glad you like my work :)

Do you mean the offer advertisements? or the bit at the bottoms saying they can advertise there?

Thanks

Add a blog or news page so you can add content frequently. In this content use your keywords, especially in the post titles.

Firstly title should start with - web design glasgow | Pretty Klicks

Meta description shouldnt be a list of keywords google will punish you for this. Try something like:

Glasgow based web design company Pretty Klicks make beautiful websites that people love.

meta Keywords - does what it says, i dont think google use this.

Give your images names that also help: logo_pretty_links.jpg instead of just logo.jpg

Register your site on dmoz.org

Manually register it with all the search engines.

Join a site link uk link exchange that can help you exchange links with people.

include your keywords in the body of your page

embed twitter if you can.

Use twitter and community sites like digg, stumpbleupon etc aswell

Create a facebook and post and get people to join it and click through to your site

I hope this helps

Thank you Reach media i have taken this into consideration and changed accordingly! :)

Glad I could be off help! SEO is such a hard area to master! You should also try optimising your site for areas just outside Glasgow. Web Design "area" instead of glasgow. People in these smaller towns would search their own town first for a web design company and you would probably make page 1 on google

I wouldn't agree with that, you can check with google how many people search for certain terms, check a small town name with web design after it, and the numbers will be low. Sure you can get on top but the amount of people searching for it is limited. Where as your will get better results for going for something with better search results but tougher competition.

Either way just variate your title, headings, description and keywords and you can get into 3 or 4 search terms quite easily.

Hi,

Hold your horses! Did you do your keyword research? Are you sure people are searching for this term? What is the competition? Are there any keywords you could rank for more quickly? For example, there are less searches on Glasgow Web Designer or Glasgow Website Design but less sites optimising for these terms.

I would typically spend a day on researching keywords before you start implementing the advice above.

Tim

I think you could definitely do with some more copy in general. Your works great but the site is quite image heavy with very little text content. That might also work against you when it comes to converting visitors to your site to paying customers, a lot of businesses looking for web design are already outside of their comfort zone so the more information you can provide about how the process works, the more comfortable they feel and the more likely they are to get in contact.

Some elements are beyond the control of webmasters and they are very important in rankings and the domain age is definitely one of them. The new websites would actually remain in some filtered stats over the net for some time.

In order to rank you must link build your keyword by using it as your anchor text. Get relevant and quality backlinks as well as consider the link strength of your backlinks. Getting links from high pr sites and trusted site also help.

To increase pafge rank of a web site,There are many organic ways for us in SEO. Link Building is on eof the process where you can build quality back links to your web site and hence increase your page rank..

Rich Content of a web site always has a great possibility for promotions and also it is easy to perform seo and getting results.Content richness is one of the main factor that is going to decide the page rank of our web site.Thank you

The main thing is : Dont get caught up in so called 'SEO expert' babble. No one really knows the google secrets.

Obviously good clean code is important. HTML Validation is not necessary, but running validation is an easy way to catch broken code that can trap spiders. If you aint linking out at all you are sending a signal that you are not part of the Internet as a whole.

Ignore keyword use in the Meta Keywords tag unless your using a blogging platform which can use the same keywords as tags. Google ignores em :) use in external link anchor text is one of the top SEO factors all in all. Ive seen sites rank for competitive keywords without even mentioning the keyword on-page simply because of external link text.

and one very important one : Google have stated that .edu, .mil and .ac TLD extensions do not inherently pass any more value than others but alternative factors might make this seem to be the case.

It's all about linking nowadays. The more links you have to your site, especially that include your keywords, the better. I hope this helps.

Perform Directory Submissions and get some quality back links for your site.Through Directory Submission we can get quality back links and hence result in increasing PR.

Be wary of link exchanges. Some of the people you link to may be "bad neighborhood" sites, that engage in linking with unscrupulous sites, and that may get you penalized. I would check everyone that you link with, using a tool like backlinkwatch.com, to make sure your partners aren't going to hurt you more than help.

The very most important aspect of SEO is good incoming links from relevant sites, using a variety of anchor text that includes your keywords. In fact, while you have your link on this site, since it is very relative to your site, you should edit your post if you can, and optimize your anchor text.

For instance, I could link to my new seo blog using that bare url, or I could do it like this - SEO Beginners Blog

In fact, while you have your link on this site, since it is very relative to your site, you should edit your post if you can, and optimize your anchor text.

Although all the forum links on this site are NoFollow anyway...

Get the back links from relevant and quality website with your keyword as anchor text, it will help you to improve your search engine rankings.

Actually, backlinkwatch is showing 4 links from this thread, and does not show them as nofollow.

The link was not the reason for my post, it was to be helpful, but they are there.

That unattended blog is my first targeted #1 ranking, for "seo noob". Granted the term gets me no traffic, and was just for fun, but it was a place to start.

Actually, backlinkwatch is showing 4 links from this thread, and does not show them as nofollow.

Hey, if you view source on this page it shows that they're all nofollow, that said i'm not convinced that Google actually doesn't follow nofollow links, it would make far more sense for them to treat "nofollow" tags as just another indicator.
