Redirect 301 from /index.php to main domain, the problem will be resolved.

I don't think there is a "solution" as such. Google have just looked at sites which were "successful" results (basically clicked on) and decided that the weightings needs to be shifted in order to ensure each search gives more similar results.
 
In the long run it's about keeping up with what the customer wants, Googles aim is to show sites the customer is going to be interested in and our aim is to make sites the customers want to find. Google are constantly changing their algorithms to show more of the things customers want so aiming to please Google is shooting to miss; we'd always be one step behind them. Far better to try and stay ahead of what the customers wants so that next time Google improves their algorithms, your rankings go up.
 
Just my two cents, is why I think SEO is one part structuring (all the on page stuff which is likely to remain relevant for the foreseeable future) and a whole load of parts of good old fashioned customer research and product improvement.
 
"Build it and they will come" isn't exactly dead, it's just been replaced with "built it better than anyone else and they will come" .....and there are a hell of a lot people building!

It makes no difference to search engines where things are in the code. Google's Matt Cutts even said so - I can't find the video link at the moment but I think it was in a "interview" video.
 
It's just one of those many "SEO myths". Put it this way, how many sites with good search results have content first/navigation second?
 
One important factor is that of accessibility. Unless you provide useful "skiplinks" some visitors may have extra problems navigating the site when navigation comes last.
 
At the end of the day if the client wants "content first" then do it

These guys: Michrome do that information for free but with something like a four month lag and you have to pay if you want current data.

Regular content's half the battle, getting links to it is the other, good advice about twitter. Trackbacks to a well known blog on a similar topic can also help early on. Once you get them to index you regularly they'll tend to stick to that more regular frequency but it takes a fair push to get them to do it in the first place. That's especially true if your sites been static for a while.

Make sure you target your ads and have catchy punchy headlines. Are you after local biz? if so geo target your ads so they only show up when someone is searching from the area your targeting this will be cheaper. Also start off bidding high and gradually reduce your bids. Most start low, however google ranks you on adwords with how much yor paying Vs your CTR (click through rate), if you bid low you will be at the bottom and your CTR will be low meaning you need to spend more and more to be there, if you bid high you will be at the top and naturally have a better CTR this will then allow you to reduce your bids and keep your top spot.
 
might also be worth targeting the types of sites you want to design, maybe 5 page website? I dont know I havent really looked into that.

Registering a Ltd is the easy part! If you google "Register Limited Company" there are lots of agencies who will do it for between £30 and £50 with some free stuff thrown in or you can submit the forms to companies house yourself.
 
I found that being able to put Ltd on everything made some companies more comfortable dealing with me (made it seem moe official and legit) BUT the paperwork is a huge pain. Not actually that complicated and HMRC are very helpful but it's just one more thing to worry about.
 
If there's more than one of you then an LLP is a great vehicle because it has the "offical" look of a Ltd but profits are treated as personal income of the partners so cuts down hugely on paperwork.

Id happily contribute. Been doing a lot of content work recently and I realise more and more its pretty much as important (in some areas more) as the actual design itself.
 
 
Anywho, back to the question in hand.
If the problem is creating the content rather than the grammer etc then have a bash at this >
 
Think of your top ten important points, and list them in order of importance.
 
Then start with your most important point and write a few sentances describing it. Then do your second most important point. (Its a bit easier to write short snippets like this than a full on long piece of content)
 
When you have done all ten (or however many you want) points you will have a fair bit of content that should naturally be search engine friendly without you having to concentrate too much.
 
Then write a generic overview and use this as your intro.
 
So your cotent structure would look like this.
 
Generic Overview.
Most important point.
Second most important point.
Third most important point.
and so on and so on.
 
If you give your generic overview a title with a H1 tag and your important points titles with H2 tags you should be left with good search engine friendly content.
You can go a lot further into the seo of course but this is a good way to start.
 
When you have finished go over it all to see how it reads and make natural wherever needed.

Obviously you may change the total charge, depending on what happens.

I generally stick to "We" for mass communications or writing about the company and then move to I once I've established a dialogue with a potential customer so it's clear that they're dealing with me (ie a real person) rather than just a random custom service team member!
