template in joomla
The html file is there so to prevent directory listings on some servers. Some servers look for default files, like index.html If that file is not present, it will just show the entire directory. Which you normally do not want. So, putting a basically empty .html file in there is simply a security measure. Sjackson is correct, you'll need to edit the index.php file for the template you have active. There may be more than one template in the "templates" folder, so make sure you edit the correct one.

phpbb3 latest posts module
Try downloading firebug, get familiar with it. And then manipulate your module with css until you getting working right. Then test it in other browsers for compatibility. If you could post a link, I could probably tell you what css style to apply.

Im still confused about implementing CMS
CMS is a management system for content. Meaning that yes, you do have to create a template for Joomla to fill in. Your customer can then create content, as much as they want, from the admin interface. Try not to think of Joomla, or any CMS, as a set of webpages. But as content that get's wrapped by a template. On that note, building a template from your existing layout is pretty straight forward as far as web design goes. Joomla and many CMS use code tags that are dropped into your template, and they are rendered on the fly when the page loads. For example, Joomla would have a snippet like <div id="pillmenu"> <jdoc:include type="modules" name="user3" /> </div> The Joomla engine knows that whatever you assigned to the user3 position from the admin section, should be rendered at this point in the page. In this case it looks like it will be the drop down menu. But it could be a module anywhere on the page. Then this code... <td> <jdoc:include type="component" /> <jdoc:include type="modules" name="footer" style="xhtml"/> </td> Would render the main content for the component. If the component the user clicked on was the article component then a list of articles would be rendered. If there was an article ID in the url, then that specific article would be rendered. This layout comes from a three column layout, so the footer module will be rendered below the component. I believe copyright info in this case. The "component" is generally loaded as the meat of the page, the central focus. And the modules are secondary small tidbits of info, or links to other things, maybe stats or polls. The best way to see how all this works, is to download a template from Joomla and play with it. Ask away if you have any more questions. Aric

Web Development Business Partners
I feel the same way sometimes. Always ideas that come and go throughout a day, but never enough time to act on them. My time is limited, and I'm more of a php/mysql guy. Never much of a css/designer type, my UI's always stink. What kind of stuff were you thinking about?

Contact/ Registration Spry Forms/ Dreamweaver. Help!
Just wanted to post something here noting that the issue is fixed. We solved it off the forum. There was an error in the mailer.php file. That is the file that process the form on the server. Marcus had 95% of the work done, there was just a couple of syntactical errors in the php. No problem, let me know if you need any more help.

Contact/ Registration Spry Forms/ Dreamweaver. Help!
Don't worry, it'll get figured out. Can I see the mailer.php file? You are calling this php file to process the form, but I don't see the file in the zipped file.

Contact/ Registration Spry Forms/ Dreamweaver. Help!
BTW, if you are trying to hide the email from spam-bots, this is not the best way to go about it. The part where you list the email address... <select name="I would like to Contact:" id="I would like to Contact:"> <option value="administration (at) wb-3d (dot) com">Autodesk Sales</option> <option value="administration (at) wb-3d (dot) com">3D Systems Sales</option> <option value="administration (at) wb-3d (dot) com">Autodesk Tech Support</option> <option value="administration (at) wb-3d (dot) com">3D Systems Tech Support</option> <option value="administration (at) wb-3d (dot) com" selected="selected">Services Inquiries</option> </select> I changed it to prevent the same thing. Ideally, you would want to keep the email address in the php code on the server, and use a variable like value="admin" or "support" then on the server you say something like... if($value == "support"){ $email = "support (at) website (dot) com"; } That is verbose and not perfect, but it gives you the idea of how to protect your email from the spam-bots. Keep us posted.

Contact/ Registration Spry Forms/ Dreamweaver. Help!
I downloaded and looked at your php file. First question, are you uploading all the dependancy files that are listed at the top of php file. These... <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationSelect.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationTextField.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationTextarea.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationCheckbox.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationSelect.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationTextField.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationTextarea.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationCheckbox.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> I'll keep looking at your file, but that would be my first guess to the problem.

Javascript Pop up target window help
So, if I get it right. Your users can click on "contacts" and get the popup in the image you posted above. Then you want that popup to open any names that are clicked on, to open back in the original window? I registered at your site and tried to find the contact image you showed above and couldn't find it???

Liquid positioning for a logo I REALLY NEED help!
An easier solution, at least a temp one that I can only tell works in firefox (through firebug) is to add "margin-right: 600px;" to the headerlogo id style. That will force the img to the left, and doesn't have an ill effect when the window is shrunk down. Check it in other browsers, especially ie 6. It looks good on my 24 inch monitor when maximized. I still suggest trying something like I mentioned above. Maybe someone else has a better idea?

Liquid positioning for a logo I REALLY NEED help!
You have your header setup as: <div id="header"> <div> 1 </div> <div> 2 </div> <div> 3 </div> <div> 4</div> </div> Why not split it up, I believe it would work better at all resolutions and across browsers, like so... <div id="div-shell"> <div id="header-top"> <div> 1 </div> <div> 2 </div> </div> <div id="header-bottom"> <div> 3 </div> <div> 4</div> </div> </div> It's a little more verbose, but should work as you would expect. You will need to apply widths of course. Good looking site btw.

CSS Frameworks - Your Opinion
I am very interested in building a template for Joomla using the 960 method. It's very interesting and looks about as light weight as it can get. Thanks for posting.

swf in joomla
Sometimes the editors will strip tags. You can verify it by clicking the "html" button in the article or module editor and adding in the tags. Then click update and the box will close. The editor content may change, but if you click the "html" button again, you'll see your tags may have been stripped partially or completely. I have seen this many times. As the others suggested, try a different editor, or what I do is just write it all in dreamweaver, disable editors from the global configuration, and then paste in the raw html. If there is no editor selected in the global config section, then you will just get a text box in the article and module managers that accepts html. Good luck.

Best CMS for designing
I always throw Joomla out there. Very customizable. Check out http://demo.yootheme.com and http://demo.rockettheme.com for a couple examples. They are commercial sites, subscription based. I have been a member of both, they both have extremely helpful member forums and each have similar addon modules that add flair to design aspect of their templates. As bluedreamer said, it does depend on a lot things. What bd lists is a great starting point to analyze what you need. Shop around and try a few, make sure to give Joomla a chance.

Can anyone help me?
Good use of the Coppermine gallery. I use it on my armed forces site, works great so far. CPG is very customizable as you no doubt know. It looks like you are using a bridge with it? What's the user management with it?

Can anyone help me?
Two suggestions here. One, try not to make a thread topic "Need help" or "Can anyone help me?, please". Slightly annoying. And doesn't help people when searching for similar topics that your content is regarding. Don't post tons of code directly into the text of your post, wrap it with the handy code tag and it should get thrown into a textarea element. I did a search on Google and found 4 million results for "php image upload form". The number one result may be of interest to you. Here is a javascript article on limiting file extensions. Of course that only works if the user has JS enabled. So, this will give you an idea of how to check and limit file extension in php. If you have any further questions regarding security of your form, please, ask.

need your suggestions
I tried an overseas outfit (India) once that I found through Elance. This was before I learned PHP/MYSQL. It was around the same price range as you are looking at with that company you linked to. My opinion would be stay away if the are overseas. You will get EXACTLY what you pay for. If you need any very specific direction or advice with Joomla, PM me.

I'm guessing you got it sorted then? It looks good to me in IE 6. What was your solution?

"to help protect your security, IE has restricted this webpage
I believe this is an issue with the files being on your local machine, and the restriction policies that windows places on webpages. Check out Mark of the web for more information. These warning should go away when you upload them to a live server. Best of luck

A new site, game for techies
For an update. After installing the cache cleaner button. I too was getting greater than 10 second load times, not even I would use a site that took over 10 seconds to load! So, I enabled zlib compression on my server. To this, I opened my php.ini file on the server, search for zlib. Found the zlib settings and edited it from "Off" to "On". Then I restart apache. This improved the page load by about 2 seconds, that was according to the WSO site I mentioned earlier in the post. Next, was this CSS compression technique. This was a little harder. It basically balls up all your CSS files into one file. Less round trips to the server, less pages to process on the local machine, faster load. This shaved close to another 2 seconds off the load time. Next will be a similar trick. Javascript Compression I already have the code in place, just getting some squirly behavior on my local machine. Think has to do with multi threading. The only other thing I can do is use "sprites" which I don't have time for. The other recommendations the WSO is pointing out are not possible. The site relies on Mootools which is a large file, even when compressed, so my JS size keeps taking a hit. After restarting the Apache server to clear its cache, and clearing my browser cache, I get consistent load times under 7 seconds. Anyone get anything grossly different? I can live with that for now. I've also identified several files that the CSS file is looking for that don't exist. I need to weed out these requests in the CSS file. Between these files and compressing the JS down a bit more, I'm hoping to reduce another 2 seconds on the load time. Keep in mind, right now it's under 7 seconds in a worst case scenario. For a revisit, the page loads in under 3 seconds for me.

Not sure you understod me. I said the button "slowed" down my load time. It took me longer to load the page after clearing my cache. I don't expect anyone to install addons to play. That is simply a dev tool for me. I am constantly re-loading the page, so I always have cached files. If I click that button, it's like I've never been to the site before. Hence, a slower load time. It's a really great tool.

A new site, game for techies
I was looking through the Joomla forums for ways to speed up the load times and found many great ideas. Also, using this clear cache button FF plugin to clean out my cache slowed my load times down considerably. It removes all the graphics, css, and JS from memory. Another issue is that if no has hit the server for a while, the server goes sleepy too. It actually runs better when visitors keep it under load. From what I have read, it's simlar to the cache on my local PC. It will hold info in cache and serve it up that way, instead of having to render everything fresh after sitting for a while. I did utilize query caching on some of my pages, where it made since. So when (if) the server is under a heavy load it doesn't have to keep running the same queries. It just what it has in memory. Gzip compression and progressive loading are things I am working on today. The WSO website gave me a ton of information about what I could try to do and where my issues could be. Myspace was kind of where I got the idea. My play Own Your Friends (OYF) and I thought about what I could do that was original. Ironically, I'm also working on a way to put links on myspace, since they redirect any link you post to the msplinks website and warn you about phishing. Thanks for testing.

Bloglite.co.uk just opened!
Tried the demo and it does seem quick and simple. Good option for those with no knowledge of databases.

Never takes me more than about 3 seconds. Can I ask which browser you are using? I looked into several methods of speeding up the site and have implemented several of them. Thanks and I will look into it some more, test from other PC's etc.
