Can you please recommend any CMS for web designers which is used widely and which works with SSL certificate. I am planning for building a new site.

There are possibly thousands of CMS's but suggesting some to look at requires a bit more information...

 

What sort of content will you be managing? ie articles, "pages", blogs, events, "records" (eg lists of things)...

Do you need the ability to cross categorise information? ie related entries, information by date, information by another parameter...

Do you need a highly flexible template engine?

I always throw Joomla out there. Very customizable.

for a couple examples. They are commercial sites, subscription based. I have been a member of both, they both have extremely helpful member forums and each have similar addon modules that add flair to design aspect of their templates.

 

As bluedreamer said, it does depend on a lot things. What bd lists is a great starting point to analyze what you need. Shop around and try a few, make sure to give Joomla a chance.

DotNetNuke is highly customizable and very powerful.

 

Takes a little longer to get great at it but it's worth it.

Forget joomla and all the rest and give modx a try, as a designer myself I think its very designer friendly and once you learn it, you will love it.
