  1. Ben did you manage to sort this out as my Windows updates have just been downloaded and IE7 is one of them and I don't want to install it yet as I want to keep my copy of IE6. What did you do to get this sorted. I'm sure there was a thred somewhere on the forum about a standalone app...can't find it though.
  2. Cool! Lucky Fella!
  3. The Killers are brilliant! I've got their album blaring out today - much to my doggies dismay - she's dragging her dogbed into the other room and slamming the door - obviously not a fan! Loud music of such fine quality really helps with productivity!!! Just thought I would share that with you. Any other fans out there? E

in firefox it all looks fine to me - but the site is aligned to the left of the page - in ie the site also looks fine, but is centered on the page - that's the only difference that I can see.
  5. You shouldn't over do it with title tags and they should always run in order - h1, h2, h3 ,h4 ,h5, h6 etc and not h1, h2, h1, h2
  6. Wow - I wasn't expecting that! Amazing... I'm too knackered to check this out now, but will have a proper look at it tomorrow. Not integrating it with anything at the moment - just an email address which will probably be in this format subcribe@domain.com i really really appreciate this - thanks a bundle for taking the time out tonight to do this...not sure how I can repay you as you're probably a genius at everything! E 1. Just after browsing through what you typed above....does it take you to a separate page to say thanks? Is it possible for it to write to the same page as I don't to leave the page the form is on. Or is it too cheeky for me to ask? 2. Where do I put the email address that I want the information to be sent to?
  7. Ah! the force is strong with this one...
  8. If I see an RSS button on someone's site do I just click on it to add it to my reader? What you've said does make a lot more sense now, thanks, but not sure how to put it into practice and so I still think I'm going to leave RSS on the shelf and gather dust for a while to be honest. Thanks for explaining it all.
  9. Hi there I'm not very good at doing forms - in fact I hate them. I'm OK with setting up the accessible CSS side of things but when it comes tot he PHP processing part and validation part of it, I crumble as I don't write PHP myself and always have to search for hours online for something suitable. I've got a client who wants to offer a subscription to a Newsletter and so I'm looking for a form that will aloow people to type in the name and email address and hit a subscribe button. For simplicity it would also be good to have an unsubscribe button, so people can use the same form and enter the same details to unsubscribe. I wouldn't want the form to them take you to a thank you page - I'd want the thankyou page to appear on the same page once the form has been processed. Is this possible and can anyone help me out? E
  10. So are you saying that I need to download some RSS software onto my PC and install it? How do I then get the RSS feeds from the sites I want to be updated on?
  11. Do I need Ajax? I looked at the demos and yes they are amazing, but not sure I want to use them to be honest - does that make me a freak?

Sport? mmm what's that? Can sitting infront of my PC and designing all day long be considered a sport? I type fast so I could score extra points there. I do a lot of walking / hiking / climbing mountains kind of stuff - does that count? How about training for the 'Stick Olympics' with my dog - she's getting quite good at retrieving that I'm sure she'd win a gold medal!
  13. I love Lightbox but as it's javascript I'm not sure I would use it myself - if someone has JS disabled it doesn't work - if it degraded well to non JS users I'd be more up for it. Mind you, you could say the same about flash - in that you need the latest plugin and not everyone in the world has access to download and install plugins on their computers so I guess I cancelled myself out there.
  14. I keep scrapbooks of things I've cut out from magazines and newspapers - images of textures, furniture, room decor, fashion, typography, page layouts, music stuff - you name it, if I like the look of it, it goes in my scrap book - I've got about 5 of them now that I've done over the past 6 years. It's quite interesting to look back through them and see how my tastes have changed and also how design has changed too. I love to look at Image Libraries aswell as you can type in the words of the mood you're trying to create in your design and get relevant imagery and looking at these often helps to inspire a design. I also look at CSS galleries as they are so easy to browse and you can get a good sense of wht's in at the moment and so that prompts you to try something different so that the site you design stands out from the crowd. I love seeing how other people solve problems and try new things especially with navigational stuff. I read a lot of designers blogs as well as that keeps me up to date with current coding trends and that definitely influences how I design. If my mind is still blank after trying all the above - I go for a walk with the dog and pick up shells on the beach and stuff like that - fresh aire helps to clear the mind and helps you focus on the task ahead.
  15. Hello cliffstah Well I hope with your 'jack of all trades' approach you'll be helping everyone out on the forum! See you around E
  16. Hi there *NUMPTY ALERT* I'm a bit behind whan it comes to things like RSS feeds etc - I blame it on my age and maybe being a bit too busy to bother to find out. What exactly is RSS? Can I use it to my advantage and for what purpose? I know that what I'm asking is probably making a lot of you smack your foreheads and go 'Oh My God Eskymo! Where have you been?' but I'm willing to admit my ignorance in the vain hope someone can explain RSS to me in plain english! I'll slump off into the darkness of my embarrassment now... E
  17. flash is good for image galleries - there are so many that you can download that use XML to store the image information - all you do is set up the flash file initially put all your images in a folder and then input the info into an xml file - like captions etc. The thumbnail gallery from flashrelief is brilliant for this - I've used it a few times.
  18. glad to be of service...
  19. Hey I'm in the process of re-skinning my website and so creating a part of my footer that will hold buttons of affiliate sites that list Eskymo - like W3Csites and the UKWDA to name a couple. It got me thinking that maybe the Web Designer Forum could have some downloadable buttons that people could grab and put on their own sites to attract more people to join. If there was such a button - I would put it on my site. It would be best to offer a few options in different sizes and styles so people could pick one that suited them. See the firefox page for examples of what I mean: Spread Firefox or the browse happy website: Browse Happy What do you think? E
  20. I have a standard rate and so all clients pay the same - so I don't have an issue with that.
  21. Powerpoint is so passe and I don't think any right minded designer should ever contemplate using it...it's crap, it's archaic and let's face it flash is so much more versatile!
  22. I've got a lot of my work from word of mouth - I've got some clients that just can't help but spread the good word about me and it's brought in tons more and I don't even pay them to advertise on my behalf - I can't thank them enough. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put a credit in the footer of every site that you do as standard. I always do this and it's been a very good way of marketing my skills and bringing traffic to my website - often from 'potential clients' in a similar field of work to the site they linksed from - hence I do a lot of work for the creative sector - which is exactly what I enjoy doing most. I could go on but it's late and I do tend to waffle...
  23. I keep them, as they may well come up with a gem of a project one day and hey money is money and when you're freelancing it's never good to turn it away.
