  1. Excellent - I'll definitely check those out as my illustrator skills are fading and I haven't quite got used to CS yet!
  2. slowly....stayed in bed far too long this morning, but since then I've done some gardening, taken the dog for a walk and made some apple and balckberry jam. I'm now checking email and designing a 'dogblog' for my dog - how sad!
  3. nice... hope it wasn't too complicated!
  4. I love animating, but don't get to do that much anymore. My first real web job was in a large company and as I was learning on the job I sort of moved in the direction of animation and flash as that's something I wanted to learn and I ended up getting the best jobs because of it - doing presentations and ecards and screensavers and games. I always fancied doing pixel art as I fell in love with the pixel as soon as I became a web designer but it seems far too time consuming that I think I'll leave it to the experts.
  5. I'm the same - start off organised and commented and categorised then as the deadline looms i just get on with stuff to get it finished. It's a nightmare coming back to a project some months later for client updates and wondering what on some of my code relates to.
  6. I always refer to the character as a 'he' but actually it should be 'she' as it's meant to be my online persona. I'm going to be adding stuff to the eskymo site soon, if I get some time.
  7. keeps you occupied at least!
  8. I've not got much up on the site, but if you visit my website and visit the links page there's a link at the bottom that goes straight to my portfolio. I do a lot of close-up photography but a lot of the images I've uploaded are from recent travels to Peru and Amsterdam. I intend to put more up there soon though when I get a slump in work and have nothing better to do.
  9. I Agree - Nice Idea! I think that's a forum that would get used a hell of a lot...
  10. does anyone know if this can be done without using JavaScript? I'm keen to know if it can be done with just CSS - I'm sure I read ages ago somewhere online that it could be done with CSS. I want to do a menu that follows you as you scroll through a website, but don't want to use JavaScript.
  11. could you not just add some kind of sub class so that when a link appears within a thread it's a different colour? Like this [example taken from a site I did recently] #navlist a:link, #navlist a:visited { color: #f2f2f2; background-color: #f2f2f2; text-decoration: none; outline:none; } #navlist a:hover, #navlist a:active { text-decoration: none; background-color: #f2f2f2; color: #f2f2f2; outline:none; } so basically if a link appears within a div called navlist it's a different colour to a list that appears within the rest of the site. I'm not sure of the exact name for this.
  12. The little cheeky character follows me around everywhere!
  13. There are even more extensions available....visit this link and take your pick of the vast selection: Firefox Extensions Here are some more usefull links for accessibility etc: Spellchecker Browser Size Aardvark XHTML compliant quicktime Email Address Encoder for Anti Spam measures I could go on, but I've got work to do this afternoon!

What's the photoshop plugin? I use Fireworks to design my site layouts, and an online widget to create my favicons: http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/ Can you create Favicons in photoshop easily? Mind you I'm still on Photoshop v7.0 and the plugin is probably for the CS version.
  15. I guess I do - it's OK on a white background, but once you're within a post and you have the yellow/beige background, the text on hover kind of disappears into the background. Just my opinion though. I wondered what other people thought of this.
  16. I think the design is great - but from a usability point of view I think the link rollover colour within posts is too light and text becomes unreadable when rolled over. Does anyone else agree?
  17. Although I test the sites that I build on most browsers, cross platform, I use the Firefox browser first and foremost and I've installed the following extensions that help me when I'm building a site: Web Developer - This extension adds the Web Developer Toolbar to your browser. From this you can access tons of tools that help test your sites for Accessibillity and Usability. e.g. being able to switch off stylesheets, javascripts, other scripts; Validating tools for your XHTML code and your CSS; Visual tools that can help outline divs, images etc to help error checking or layout problems; I could go on, but I won't as the list of tools is too vast - I use this tool bar everyday and it's great! View Source Chart - This is another great extension that makes looking at a site's source code a lot easier. It creates a colorful chart of a webpage's rendered source code and clearly defines all nested containers making it easier to identify how a site is structured so it's great for learning. HTML Validator - HTML Validator is a Mozilla extension that adds HTML validation inside Firefox and Mozilla. The number of errors of a HTML page is seen on the form of an icon in the status bar when browsing. The details of the errors are seen when looking the HTML source of the page. The extension is based on Tidy. Tidy, was originally developed by the Web Consortium W3C. And now extended and improved by a lot of persons. Tidy is embedded inside Mozilla/Firefox and makes the validation locally on your machine, without sending HTML to a third party server. [i just copied that text from the site page - so read that for further info] I hope these help any newbies out there who are just getting into Accessibility as I find these tools really do make my job easier.
  18. Are any of the above 'Standards Compliant'? My programming colleague uses Cactushop and says it's brilliant - it's XHTML+CSS and Standard Compliant...the only downfall for me is that it's ASP rather than PHP. Do you know if there are any e-commerce solutions out there that are PHP based and written in XHTML+CSS?
  19. I personally use Dreamstime and they're very cheap, but I also uplaod my own images for sale as well. Their URL is: http://www.dreamstime.com/
