Responsive Web Design - StackLayout
I'd rather start simple and build up from that, instead of working with congested code and having to strip out all the stuff I don't need - don't need half the stuff these grid systems offer so don't see the point it trying to get my head around them.

Responsive Web Design - StackLayout
I'm just starting a new web project that needs to work on ipads and iphones as well as desktop browsers so I'm thinking of going down the RWD route to avoid having to build a separate mobile website and get my head around media queries instead. So I've read 'Responsive Web Design' by Ethan Marcotte and looking into Grid systems, but really don't fancy the complexity of a lot of the grid systems available as I don't need so much of the elements provided by these systems and I also find them so confusing. I don't think the book really explains the basics of using grids or the available grid systems out there - it just presumes you know what they are and how to use them which I found really annoying about the book. I've been thinking of just creating my own framework to work from as the site isn't complicated, it's just large (as in 50+ pages) and I need it to start off as a three column website and scale down to two columns and then one column depending on the device being used, but also need a little help to get going so been looking around for simplified no nonsense grids. Today I came across StackLayout and thinking of giving it a go - it's not a grid system as such, but I like the way it works and the site provides lots of examples to get me started. http://stacklayout.com/ Has anyone use it before?

301 redirect from a .org a .co.uk and a .eu to a .com
My clients main website url is a .com and we've just moved it from one hosting provider to another and totally redesigned his site - it's now much simpler has only a few pages whereas the original had tons - I've implemented a htaccess file with 301 redirects for all the pages from the old site to the new, but not sure what to do about his .org .co.uk and .eu domains - how do I redirect from these?

How to implement this jCarousel Lite script
I've given up and used http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/ instead that a friend emailed me and managed to get this working due to the good documentation within a matter of minutes. So I've deleted all the files I no longer need and implemented the new script on the live site page. Thanks for all your help...

How to implement this jCarousel Lite script
Yes i tried that and it didn't work either... I followed the tutorial to the letter - no luck. I don't want next and previous buttons I want it set to auto play.

How to implement this jCarousel Lite script
no idea either - I've added your version of the script and still nothing... why can't they provide proper documentation with these things? Actually if you click on auto scroll in the right hand nav you get the script there, so I've reverted back to my version...

How to implement this jCarousel Lite script
maybe that's because it's not there - where does that need to go? I've just copied and pasted the scripts from the site and there was no "$(document).ready(function() {" in their example....

How to implement this jCarousel Lite script
I found this - jCarousel Lite and I want to use the 'Auto Scroll' version of this but can't get it working. I've downloaded the relevant jquery files into a js folder and have inserted this lot into the head of my html file: <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jcarousellite.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/easing.js"></script> I've then added my list of items: div id="carousel"> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.financialplanning.org.uk/directory/united-kingdom/london-city/london/duncan-glassey" title="CFP - We hold the globally recognised standard of excellence" target="_blank" id="btn-cfp"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.sifa-centre.info/search/firm_individuals.asp?reference=4408" title="We are members of SIFA" target="_blank" id="btn-sifa"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.apil.org.uk/" title="1st tier expert in financial planning" target="_blank" id="btn-apil"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.fpanet.org/professionals/Connect/CommunitiesofInterest/InternationalCommunity/" title="Members of International FPA Community" target="_blank" id="btn-fpa"></a></li> <li><a href="#" title="New Model Adviser® awards 2012 - Finalist: Best IFA Firm (Scotland and Northern Ireland)" target="_blank" id="btn-nma"></a></li> <li><a href="#" title="The Personal Finance Society - The professional body for the financial planning profession in the UK" target="_blank" id="btn-pfs"></a></li> </ul> </div> then added the auto scroll bit of code supplied: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $(".auto .jCarouselLite").jCarouselLite({ auto: 800, speed: 1000 }); }); </script> So why doesn't it work? My Page Here - what am I missing? I can't view the source code of the auto scroll demo and so can't copy and paste. I've implemented rcarousel on this page but I don't like the way it works as I want a carousel that increments one image at a time. If anyone can help me that'd be great as jQuery and my brain don't mix and I can never get things working.

Styling Links in Wordpress
Just ignore this - it was the H4 headings I was wanting to change not the H3's and so no wonder nothing was changing. Need sleep....

Styling Links in Wordpress
Ok - so I have this in my CSS: a:link, a:visited { color: #990000; text-decoration: underline; } a:hover, a:active { color: #990000; text-decoration: none; } I want to style any H3 elements that are links differently, so I thought I'd just put this is straight after: h3 a:link, h3 a:visited { color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: underline; } h3 a:hover, h3 a:active { color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: none; } It has NO effect - why? Am I missing something really obvious here - I'm totally knackered from lack of sleep, so probably!

Need help with Custom Post Types and Taxonomies
I think the reason that my taxonomy archive pages are showing all work rather than streamlining the content is because of this line of code: <?php query_posts('post_type=work&posts_per_page=4'); ?> My custom post type is 'work' and this is the code I use on the main Work page to pull in all work. How would I change this code to show one of my 'work-categories' like 'artists' or 'independents'?

This has now been fixed by using <?php the_excerpt(''); ?> rather than <?php the_content(''); ?>

Need help with Custom Post Types and Taxonomies
Okay - I added this to my index-work.php, single-work.php and taxonomy-work-categories.php pages and nothing has changed. On the main work page I see both taxonomies listed in the sidebar. If I click on one of these I get taken to the archive page, but again instead of listing just one taxonomy it shows all the work I've added to the site just like before and also only the the selected taxonomy appears in the sidebar rather than all of them. What am I doing wrong?

Need help with Custom Post Types and Taxonomies
Ok I've changed the taxonomies bit in the functions.php file - it does nothing apart from remove the default 'category' and 'post tags' from the columns in the admin. I've created a taxonomy-work-categories.php page and tested the sidebar links. If I click on a taxonomy link I get taken to this new php page, but then the list of taxonomies in the sidebar changes to just display the taxonomy that I have linked to - the others disappear. Also this archive page displays all the work custom post types I've created rather than the ones that have been assigned to the taxonomy created. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this and your help would be much appreciated. I've spent hours on google today searching for answers and got absolutely nowhere. ----------- If you want to see what I mean login here as a contributor: http://www.mbsgraphicdesign.com/wp-admin/ username: Guest // password: th1s1sat3st Once you've navigated to the site you can visit the Work page. I've added two items of work. One is assigned to the 'Artists' taxonomy and the other to 'Independents'. For some reason the links DO NOT work on the main work page - no idea why as they work fine on the taxonomy-work-categories.php page and both templates use exactly the same code (???!!! no idea how to fix this). So if you click on 'Artists' in the sidebar you get taken to the archive for that taxonomy, but for some reason it lists both items of work even though only one is assigned to 'Artists'. Alse in the sidebar only one taxonomy is now displayed - again no idea why. No idea what is going on so I'm packing up for tonight as I've had enough head scratching and going round in circles and not getting anywhere.

Need help with Custom Post Types and Taxonomies
I'm trying to get my head around Custome Post Types and Taxonomies. I've created a section on my Wordpress site called Work and so I've got this in my functions.php file: add_action('init', 'work_register'); function work_register() { $labels = array( 'name' => _x('Work', 'post type general name'), 'singular_name' => _x('Work Item', 'post type singular name'), 'add_new' => _x('Add New Work Item', 'portfolio item'), 'add_new_item' => __('Add New Work Item'), 'edit_item' => __('Edit Work Item'), 'new_item' => __('New Work Item'), 'view_item' => __('View Work Item'), 'search_items' => __('Search Work'), 'not_found' => __('Nothing found'), 'not_found_in_trash' => __('Nothing found in Trash'), 'parent_item_colon' => '' ); $args = array( 'labels' => $labels, 'public' => true, 'publicly_queryable' => true, 'show_ui' => true, 'query_var' => true, 'rewrite' => true, 'capability_type' => 'post', 'hierarchical' => false, 'menu_position' => null, 'supports' => array('title','editor','thumbnail'), 'taxonomies' => array('category', 'post_tag') // this is IMPORTANT ); register_post_type('work' , $args ); } register_taxonomy("work-categories", array("work"), array("hierarchical" => true, "label" => "Work Categories", "singular_label" => "Work Category", "rewrite" => true)); And I think I've got all of that right as I've got a section in my admin where I can add Work items. I wasn't sure whether to include this line: 'taxonomies' => array('category', 'post_tag') // this is IMPORTANT because I want to create a new taxonomy called 'work categories' hence registering this at the end of my code using register_taxonomy("work-categories", array("work"), array("hierarchical" => true, "label" => "Work Categories", "singular_label" => "Work Category", "rewrite" => true)); The admin screen displays a column for Categories and Tags, but not one for Work Categories - How do I ditch the columns for Categories and Tags and add a column for Work Categories??? What else do I need to add to my functions.php file to do this?? My second issue is this: I've created an index-work.php and a single-work.php pages to deal with my Custom Post Types and I've added this code to my sidebar: <h1>Categories</h1> <?php $taxonomy = 'work-categories'; $queried_term = get_query_var($taxonomy); $terms = get_terms($taxonomy, 'slug='.$queried_term); if ($terms) { echo '<ul>'; foreach($terms as $term) { echo '<li><a href="'.get_term_link($term, $taxonomy).'">'.$term->name.'</a></li>'; } echo '</ul>'; } ?> And this now outputs my Work Categories as a lovely list - all great, but the links generated for these are http://www.mywesbite.com/work-categories/artists/ for example for the 'artists' category, which is fine, but they use the archive.php page that is used by the blog - how can I get them to link to a page I've created? I've tried creating an archive-artists.php page or a category-artists.php page but these aren't picked up. I don't want to use the blog archive.php page to display my work categories. Any ideas???

Making websites mobile-friendly
thanks for the link - I've got lots of reading and learning to do over the next few weeks as I've not even tackled HTML5 yet as I've been off work for most of the year... Got to get my head round that and responsive web design for a new project I'm quoting for - it's all rather exciting even though it's also very daunting.

Freelance Contracts
Thanks for the tip but it's not an option for me as Id have to have the book exclusively available on the wdf which is not desirable as I sell it on my website also and plan to sell it elsewhere too.
