  1. okay so now I've added: echo get_the_category() . '|' . wp_title(''); And get this in the title: Client Name | Post Title|Array
  2. if I use echo single_cat_title() . '|' . wp_title(''); I get Client name | Post Title|
  3. Nope that's not right as I get a load of html within the title tage, so I think it's churning out the actually category content.
  4. Yeah it's not the typo as i corrected that because I got a syntax error when I tried to display the page. I've done a ton of searches on google and tried using single_cat_title() and got nothing - but just presumed it was the way I was inserting into the if statement.
  5. They are actually. It's a very simple site with very little text - more image led portfolio.
  6. Just added your title code and it doesn't work the way I want it to. When I click on a Category, it displays all the posts within that category and the titles is client name | category name All ok so far. When I then click on a post within that categroy the title goes to client name | post title I want it to be client name | category name | post title How do I achieve that? The rest works OK.
  7. you mention <?php global $post; ?> - I don't have this in my header.php file - where does it go and why do I need it?
  8. Sorry don't get it. - how do I place the 'Client Name |' in front of the if statement - where? - what do you mean by <!-- second part for home page - set to blog name --> In my wordpress setting I have the Blog Title set as the Client's name and in the Tagline box I've got the description of the website. Sorry but I'm a complete dullard when it comes to PHP.
  9. Hey All Can anyone help mw get my wordpress titles displaying as I want them - I can't get my head round this today? At the moment I have the following in my title tag <title> <?php if (is_home()) { echo bloginfo('name'); } elseif (is_404()) { echo '404 Not Found'; } elseif (is_category()) { echo 'Category:'; wp_title(''); } elseif (is_search()) { echo 'Search Results'; } elseif ( is_day() || is_month() || is_year() ) { echo 'Archives:'; wp_title(''); } else { echo wp_title(''); } ?> </title> On the homepage I want: Client Name | Website Description On the 404 page I want: Client Name | Error - 404 Page Not Found On a Category page I want: Client Name | Category Name Within a Category single post I want: Client Name | Category Name | Post Title When I'm on the about and contact pages I want: Client Name | About Me Client Name | Get In Touch
  10. Apologies for the crap title for this thread, I can't think of how else to describe what I'm after. I started building this site a while back and it went into Limbo, but I'm now on the case again. I've just styled teh homepage and not done the rest of the site pages yet. What I'm after is for my post titles - the text sitting over the images on a grey background, to only appear if you rollover the image. Wondered how I could do this. Some examples of like effects: Gallery Pro I quite like the way it pops up from the bottom, not so fussed about the image moving too. Inspiredbits Too much info appearing on this one, but a nice rollover effect ChrisMDay Another nice example Is this done through a plugin? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  11. My developer has been looking into this today and has gone down the route of retrieving the information from the database tables. He can login into the MSQL database, but he's come up against a problem, in that we've posted up 2 blog posts and nothing is appearing within the post_content or post_title tables within the database. Anybody got any ideas? Here's a visual: Does anyone know the ASP required to retrieve the post title and post content?
  12. thanks - will pass the info on as this makes sense.
  13. so how do you do that exactly?
  14. I just want to pull in one single post - i.e. the latest.
  15. I've got a bit of a weird setup with one of my client websites. I worked with an ASP developer and his CMS and so the entire site is all in ASP. The client requested a blog last year and we managed to add PHP to the mix and put a self hosted wordpress blog on a sub domain. I'm now in the process of redesigning the homepage and I want to pull in the latest blog post into the homepage - I know how to do this using PHP - but how would I do it on an ASP website? My developer doesn't ever use PHP and so it's up to me to find out. Anyone got any suggestions?
  16. informed choice...mmm...watch this video...a lot of people don't even know what a browser is...less that 8% of people interviewed for the video! Shocking but true.
  17. Just read this article and thought I'd share it with you all...
  18. that's not what I mean - I don't want to customise my sidebar - I want to pull an excerpt of the latest post into my page template. I found and used this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-last-posts/ and it works fine.
  19. hey all I'm doing a site in Wordpress at the moment and created a custom page template for the homepage. I've got a div set up and I want the latest post from the blog to be pulled into this div. How would I go about setting this up? I want it to be automatic, so that every time the blog is updated with a new post, an excerpt of this post is pulled into the homepage. Thanks E
  20. I re-uploaded all the core wordpress files and it's still the same...
  21. I'm wokring on a new site for a client and building it using Wordpress. Yesterday I installed a load of plugins and did a load of work on the site and eventually noticed that the navigation on the left had become strangely indented like this: I've disabled all of my plugins and that hasn't made a difference. So I then reinstalled all the wordpress files and that didn't make a difference either. has this happened to anyone else? does anyone knows what is causing this?
  22. That wasn't in the brief - she just wanted an email link.
  23. Thanks for checking. That's one possibility - but as I haven't got a machine that's not got any email software installed I can't test that. Maybe the poeple complaining use google or hotmail but then what I don't understand is why people don't just copy the email address and paste it into their hotmail or google account? Any more testers out there - would really appreciate a few more folk testing this for me. Cheers Evie
  24. I'm having problems with a client's email address - well actually I'm not - she is, as are the customers of her shop apparently. Here is the email I got from her last night: This is the page with the infamous email link: http://www.funkyscottish.co.uk/ If you scroll down you'll find the email link at the bottom of the middle column. I've encrypted the email address using this form: http://www.ianr.unl.edu/email/encode/ I've used this form to encrypt loads of other email addresses on other websites and none of those seem to be causing any issues, well I've had no complaints so far. When I click on this email link it opens up my Outlook software and I can send an email to the client. I've test it on a few machines and it works just fine. I wondered if you guys/gals could do the same - click on the link and send an email saying 'THIS IS A TEST' I'd like to know if anyone of you encounter any problems or if the email link works as it should. I can't see what's wrong with this at all - lots of head scratching! Thanks Evie
