  1. Hopefully you can return to fitness/body building as that can help you stay focused, especially when you see results, while if you make changes to your diet, eat foods high in serotonin and stick to a strict routine, all these little things play there part, as you may not require pills, you may be able to beat depression without medication. Even something as simple as joining a MMA/Boxing club (if you're interested in that) being around new people, positive people, it can help, rather then being stuck indoors staring at a computer screen, but I hope you can find a way as not everyone beats depression the same way.
  2. AH ok! I thought It was him as he talks about weights etc!
  3. And if nulldrome looks like he does in his photo, i can imagine few take him serious as why would anyone be depressed when they have big muscular pecs and a nice tan? That is how people react if you tell them you're depressed but visually look healthy.
  4. If someone is actually depressed, truly depressed, they can't be told "just get on with it" as while people are only trying to help, depression is a mental illness which means it controls how you live your life. If it was as simple as just getting on with things, then millions of people wouldn't have to suffer or have their life ruined by the illness. Focus on beating depression first, before you try and find employment and maybe you have to change doctors, as not all doctors understand the illness.
  5. Already looks better. I'm sure if a teenager visits your site, they will relate to that photo, rather then 5 bullies!
  6. If you sign up to https://pixabay.com/ you can download all their images in high res, just be aware these photos are heavily used throughout the Internet as they are popular!
  7. Just to follow on from my reply, when someone lands on your homepage they will see "start here" as part of the navigation which takes them away from the homepage, however your homepage has six articles and two big buttons "learn how to help" and "view our blog". If you remove the "learn how to help" button, moving that to your navigation, while moving your "start here" content to the homepage, there is no confusion for your visitors and the navigation of the site is improved. While you could move your "view our blog" button to your final paragraph of your "start here" content. Anyhow just a few suggestions as we all design sites in a different manner.
  8. I see 5 teens? although I'm heading into town soon to purchase non prescription glasses! Will most visitors to your site be aware 1 in 4 suffer from mental health illness,? I would change the photo to one your visitors can relate to as unless others disagree, that photo looks like a group of bullies. I would move the blog posts away from the homepage, replace that content with a photo of yourself with the paragraphs from "start me", while I would include the main navigation on all pages.
  9. Looking at your homepage, I would change the main photo. Your current image IMO would be more suited to a website for "dealing with bullying". An image similar to this ? https://pixabay.com/en/window-view-sitting-indoors-girl-1081788/ Aside from the main photo, you have kept the layout clean and ts easy to browse. I did notice on the following page the main navigation is missing? minor issue but you may want to correct that. https://www.depressionforteens.com/raise-mental-health-awareness/ I would also consider including an introduction on the homepage, a few paragraphs about you, why you created the website and why helping others with depression is important and if you're comfortable adding a photo of yourself? Just a few suggestions! But good job and you should be pleased with your work so far.
  10. In regards to stock photography, there are many excellent websites which offer high quality (free to use) stock photos, However search for the stock photo you're viewing using google image search and watch as pages and pages appear of that photo used on a variety of websites. This isn't an issue for template or prototypes, however if you take on a client, you have to source original images, paid for stock photos, or if you're into photography (or know a photographer) you can arrange your own stock photos, otherwise you will come across as being cheap, a designer that uses free stock photos to save a few £££. That said, I know of one website which offers high quality, stunning free to use stock photos of a beautiful place in Europe. Very few know about this website (google image search confirms this), shall I share the link? Not a chance!
  11. I always appreciate it when someone replies and yes I was a tad angry! I've since calmed down :-) Apologies if I was rude. The replies seemed to be fixated on me mentioning bootstrap, however I accept my initial post could have been worded in a clearer manner. I'm not seeking "free" advice, as my experience of web forums are they offer ways of learning rather then a way to obtain free advice from professionals, so maybe I've posted on the wrong type of forum? Anyhow, I've since signed up to php/database forums, as I was having an issue with a php form which I've adjusted to use AJAX (all new to me) and I'm going to attempt a simple job board, which I can control/update as required. If I fail? i'll find a professional!
  12. Cheers, i'll add that to points to consider, however i'm not sure that would apply for my website. I may add a blog, allowing myself and staff to write articles, similar to here http://www.webrecruit.co.uk/employer-blog The plan for that blog wasn't to leave it open to comments, as it would be more to give advice/tips, rather then open the articles up for discussion.
  13. Why even type this Bootstrap is just the presentation layer. You'll need to add in the dynamic parts that makes it work Some of you have become fixated with me typing bootstrap, but I haven't once stated its anything other then for layout reasons, so if you're going to reply, follow the thread as i've already covered that with another poster who was misunderstood. However, I don't have any passion for learning how to put together a database (which I already mentioned) so no worries about bringing in a professional on that side, but I'll see what further research brings before I speak to a professional on that side.
  14. Many thanks for the replies, you have given me more to think about, although I don't agree that design is easy, as having an eye for good design and knowing how to design a site that captures your visitors, isn't a quality that everyone has, you only have to look at some websites which are bland and lacking in any originality. My website is responsive, code is clean, displays on all browsers/devices as I hoped and without being big headed, i'm quite proud of my work but I certainty don't claim to be anything other then a beginner when it comes to adding a database or developing of that kind, as my talent is in design and your replies have made me realise I have to consider certain factors when adding a database.
  15. There is a reason chromebooks and chrome browser are popular, as google done their research and understood the large majority of people that use the Internet and use computers, prefer simple devices/browser with less options.
  16. I've enjoyed using bootstrap and putting together the site, so while yes it could be lighter, there are many successful websites out there that use bootstrap, so i'm not really concerned over splitting hairs regarding the website being faster/lighter, as the website loads fast, especially in todays age of superfast broadband. Anyway, the job board isn't going to be particularly large, for example similar to here http://www.timerecruitment.co.uk/candidates/vacancies/ I could create a section for current vacancies (like above) without the need for a database. However as the business grows it would require a database, but I now have a few options to consider so I'm glad I posted this thread.
  17. My way of learning is simply to get stuck in, as you learn more from making mistakes then you do reading boring books or listening to an annoying voice on a youtube video. Creating a compete train wreck of a website, returning to that website and picking it apart to see what has caused issues, means (for me anyway) that I learn how to avoid these issues in future. I also keep previous sites and compare each site to my updated site, which shows the progression and I look at my original design, embarrassed that I thought It was decent!
  18. Clicked once, never again! Have to agree with above about links looking dodgy. There are many many professional hosting companies out there, so you have to go that extra step in all fine details before anyone would even think about switching.
  19. I'm a fan of the simple layout. At least you have been consistent with the lack of photos, however personally I would use original images or improved color scheme throughout the site. To give you an example, compare your website with the host I use http://www.unitedhosting.co.uk/ You both focus on a clean uncluttered design, yet their website has a stronger color scheme which adds that professional touch in terms of the design.
  20. You sound like me from previous years, I had all these plans, good ideas, thinking surely one is going to make me millions! You need to take the advice posted above and ease off from being a dreamer, as trust me it doesn't get you anywhere. Personally I think its now harder then ever to make money from creating original websites that bring in income, as how often do you have an idea, you research and find its been done, not just once, but its been copied. I have one friend who makes a living by streaming videos on twitch! just using her good looks, sweet personality and she has viewers making donations, while there are people with skills struggling to come up with ideas for websites, and thats the way making money from websites has changed, as you would stand more chance of making money by uploading videos to YouTube and showing off your body and talking about bodybuilding. Anyway, apologies for rambling on, but just think you're wasting your time looking for that idea that will make money from creating a unique website.
  21. Well, I usually master anything I put my hand too once I get past the learning curv. In terms of the layout I've been looking at sites designed by professionals, some on here and my work is of the same standard or at times of a higher quality, however depending on further research, I may indeed bring in a professional for the development aspect (database) as I can't say I have much passion for that side of the work!
  22. Quite, which is why I discussed the layout being bootstrap? Anyhow misunderstanding as I thought you was suggesting not to use bootstrap at all.
  23. What about this https://simplejobscript.com/ Plus it says its based on bootstrap
