  1. Just an update. We transfired our domains from V8Media the end of last week. The man who was supposed to be in charge of our domain could have sorted all this out a month ago with ease if he had contacted us and talked to us, explained the problem etc. I had to telephone Nominet myself and find out what was going on, they were really helpful and helped me get it sorted out. I can't tell you how stressed I was. Anyway we've moved to WESH and they made the move all very painless.
  2. The domain belongs to this company but says due for renewal in December.
  3. Ok, so now I have the full story....I'm at work. Wouldn't they have given ample warning to the company that this would happen? Idealy I'd like to change the email to one without any of their company names in it and have the old email address running at the same time until it wasn't being used anymore.
  4. I shall see if I can get it sorted tomorrow morning....if I can't then I'll add their name. I would have got the site hosted elsewhere ages ago if it wasn't for this stupid email as they're not cheap.
  5. What they did when the email was set up is put the email address hotel@ourdomainname.theirhostingcompany.co.uk
  6. We've had our hotel website hosted by a local company for many years. Last year the company got taken over by another company. On Friday our emails stopped coming through. We rang our host but they weren't in until today. Today (Monday) we got an email saying our email had been changed. We did have a very stupid email for a business but as it is on our brochures, in all the guide books, on write ups on the net and many other places we've left it as it is just because it is so much trouble to alter it. Today our web host has told us they've changed it. Just like that. I've not spoken to them yet but they've told them at work that it is done now and thats that. Obviously if our email is changing I'm happy to change hosts too but that isn't the issue. Is this normal practice to just do this with no warning. Giving us no overlap time to run two addresses or something? We'll loose lots of business through this not to mention the bookings we will have lost over the weekend. I just want to know if this is normal or if there is anything I can do about it.
  7. Thanks for the help folks.
  8. Thanks I'll give that a try.
  9. Yeah, I think he just doesn't want anyone to be able to copy the images, I know you can still do it and obviously I can't stop a print screen but he knows I can stop the right click. I wasn't sure if floating an image over is a better way of doing it. There are about half the pages on the site using images I have to stop people taking (to the best of my ability....which isn't much lol) and the rest are my own and while I'd rather no one took them I'm not going to do anything to stop them either. I don't want to disable the right click from the whole page, just the images on a few pages.
  10. I have read the previous threads on disable right click but non of the scripts I've come across work in IE8. I did read you can add a transparent png over an image which can work in a similar way. How do do you do that? I know all the arguments, anyone can get an image if they want one etc. but the person who is allowing use of the images wants this sorted.
  11. Thanks for the icons. I did think a lot of people wouldn't bother. I on the other hand am a beginner and am so pleased it all works that I can't help myself, I have to put the icons on.......I'll probably be the only one who clicks on it too!
  12. This question is in two parts. Firstly, I read the terms on the w3C markup validation service for using the icon, it says you shouldn't change it or use any other image. I have often seen a small icon instead of that huge given when your site has passed. Where would I find a different version and can I use a different version? Also, do you add the icon to all your pages or do you not bother? The Dragon
  13. I've just been looking into apprentices at work (not this line of work) and it was £90 per week. If you want them to stay though it is suggested you pay them more. If I wasn't so old I'd do it lol, round here they've said only 16 - 18 year olds can do it.
  14. It seems to be something that each designer has to decide for themselves. I personally think this case it is pretty important to have these links open in a new window.
  15. Excellent! T hanks for the help. I wanted to use strict because I'm still learning and thought it might help me stop getting into bad habbits. Still got 15 errors to sort out though on my last validation lol. Fun fun...
  16. I'm still new to all this but wanted to do my latest site using xhtml strict. I want to add the open in new window to a couple of images/links and have realised you can't use target_blank to do it using xhtml strict. What is the best way of doing it? Do you have to use javascript? Is there an easy way? Thanks in advance...
  17. lol, well as far as I knew I'd tried to change it but still kept saying the same thing when I put a different one in. I have been to the link but can't find any other information on how to change it again. There is always the chance that I'm missing something obvious......it won't be the first time!
  18. I have tried to put a map on my website. When I click on the page in question it shows this... How can it be used on a different website? How do I get another, that link doesn't seem to help, I just get the same one.
  19. Cheers for that. I'll give it a go.
  20. What is the easiest safe way to add your contact details to a website? I have been looking at free contact forms but I'm not sure which one would best. I've not a clue about this bit and I need it to be easy as my brain has gone to sleep and I can't wake it up!
  21. I've only done one site before and that was for my parents hotel. I'm in a tourism group and offered to do a simple site for them (for nowt :S). It's not as simple as I'd have liked though lol. I'm learning as I go along and so am quite enjoying doing it but it is taking ages. The site is done by me, some of the content and photos are by me but some is from another member of the group and some photos have been donated by a local photographer who's agreed to let us use them as long as he gets his link up on the site. I am adding ©at the bottom and wondering do I do it using my name or theirs? I kind of feel I've done the work for nowt so it should be mine. Saying that some of the pictures aren't ©to me is it still ok to put my copyright on the site. I'm not really sure how it works.
