  1. For me, it's not about the qualification or experience in Web Development. It's all about how good you are and how much you know. There's different kinds of people. There's some kids out there who have more knowledge about Web Development than any of us who hold qualifications in this field, who most likely won't need a piece of paper to prove they have the knowledge. A 'qualified web designer' won't get a job without a portfolio. You have to prove that you know what it takes. Now, let's say I have the highest qualification in Web Design which I achieved in 2004. To keep up with the times, i'll have to learn the latest technologies myself because I don't have to time for courses anymore. Especially in Web Development, you can call yourself a Web Developer or Web Designer if you have the skills.
  2. Greetings from Indonesia

Hi there, welcome to the forum!
  3. Music while working

I like epic/orchestral music. Lately, I've been all about Two Steps From Hell. Also, sometimes I listen to podcasts. The best one for me is The Rick Gervais show. The best human being on Earth = Karl Pilkington. Proof below...
  4. Hidden divs/text in search engines

Hi guys, I want to make a FAQ-style list where after clicking on one of the links in the list, there is a collapsed div below each link (that includes content based on the list item) which will expand. Is the text in the hidden divs visible to search engines? I know how to show/hide divs but just wondering if this is seo friendly. Thanks
  5. Looking for feedback on latest site

Jeez! Some people are so harsh. I like the site man. It's about fishing, it's not youtube or facebook. As long as it's easy to surf and the customer focus is in mind then I don't see many major improvements to be made. The text size in the content section and the horizontal navigation bar is a bit too small. I would also space the content out a bit more with a bit of padding and bottom margin to push the video section down maybe 10-20 px just so the content doesn't look too 'squashed' together. That's all I can add for a project on a tight budget. Good luck!
  6. Webdesign opinion

Hello NiBi18, I'm not an expert but I do find your design to be very messy and too dark. U have a dark background image and the content area background is also dark. The footer colour also does not fit in with the rest of the page. You need to work on your colours. Also, the logo is too big and there's not enough information in your header area. It's all taken up by the logo. You should definitely check out some modern web designs. Just search on google for some inspiration. Good luck!
  7. I love the icons under "What we do". So simple yet so good. Overall, I think it looks really good and very easy to understand for potential customers with no idea about web development. Clean.
  8. Website redesign

I like index8 but instead of making the content expand over 100%, why not have a container at a fixed width within the 100% div (basically a div container wrapping the content) and give it a margin:0 auto; to position the container div in the middle pf the page. It's something I've recently learned and it's definitely neater. I'm not an expert here but just an opinion If you compare your earlier designs to the index8, they look so 90s. Big improvement!
  9. Header and Footer 100% width

    Thanks for the tips guys
  10. Header and Footer 100% width

    Hi guys! I want to know what is the best way to give my header and footer a 100% width just so I can fit a background image (repeat-x) for both. I have an idea of how to do it but I want to confirm with you boffins if this method is ok to go ahead with... I am also having problems viewing the outcome on dreamweaver design view. Everything is shifted to the left. Am I doing something wrong or is dreamweaver a bit dodgy in that department? Please guys, any help would be nice. Fixed layouts is all I've done in the past and now I'm experimenting with different styles. eg. HTML: <html> <head> <title>100% Header and Footer</title> </head> <body> <div id="headerWrap"> <div id="header">Header</div> </div> <div id="contentWrap"> <div id="content">Content</div> </div> <div id="footerWrap"> <div id="footer">Footer</div> </div> </body> </html> CSS: * { padding:0; margin:0; } #headerWrap { width:100%; background-color:#; } #header { width:940px; margin:0 auto; height:200px; background-color:#777; } #contentWrap { width:100%; background-color:#eee; } #content { width:940px; margin:0 auto; min-height:600px; background-color:#ddd; } #footerWrap { width:100%; background-color:#; } #footer { width:940px; margin:0 auto; height:300px; background-color:#777; }
  11. Getting control of background colors

Thanks guys for your tips. I'm going to play around with this... lol
  12. Hey guys, I've got a little thing here for you pros. HTML: <html> <head> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="bluebox">ON</div> <div id="redbox">ON</div> <div class="clr"></div> </div> </body> </html> CSS: body { background-color:#eee; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:20px; } #container { width:320px; background-color:#fff; margin:20px auto; padding:40px; line-height:50px; text-align:center; font-weight:bold; } #container:hover { background-color:#FC3; } #bluebox { float:left; width:148px; height:48px; background-color:#0080FF; margin-right:20px; border: solid 1px #fff; } #redbox { float:left; width:148px; height:48px; background-color:#FF2626; border: solid 1px #fff; } .clr {clear:both;} So, basically I want to play around with background colors here. I want to know how I can control the background color of one div by click other divs. I've designed a clear platform here to test on. The container has a plain white bg with a orangy hover bg. When I click "ON" on the blue box, i want the background of #container to change to blue and display "OFF" in the place of ON. When hovering of container while blue/red in ON, there should be no hover effect. When I click "OFF" on the blue box I want the background color of #container to revert back to its original color and display ON again. and the same with red box...click "on" and bg goes red, click "off" and you revert to normal container bg color. If you need further explanation then please ask lol. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Media player advice...

Hi, I'm creating a website for music downloads (legal). I'm going to have a list of tracks put into divs, row by row. There is also one main player which will be placed above this list. Beside each track title, there will be a play button. When people click the play button, I want the main player to load the selected track into the player and start playing automatically. While a track is playing, if the user clicks on another track's play button, I want the track to change automatically to the new selected track. I hope you understand what I'm trying to achieve here. So, the main question is...shall I use flash or jquery or something? which one will be cross-browser friendly and also which one would work well on most/all devices? All track info will be stored in databases and the /mp3 files in a folder on the server. If i'm not being clear about something then please ask. I'll draw a diagram if needed. Cheers!
  14. Collapse/Expand Div

Worked like a charm, mate! Brilliant, thank you so much.
