  1. I don't see a use for a flat files when sql is so simple and robust. Google random row from database and you'll find several examples; Depending on the amount of rows in the database I'd maybe take a look at this article for more information on the sql command. Then do something like (untested): SQL: CREATE TABLE testimonials ( Name text, Text text ) PHP: <?php $mysqli= new mysqli("localhost", "username", "password", "database"); // Select Random Row (read the link above for the best approach to random) $query = "SELECT * FROM `testimonials` ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1;" // Run Query $result = $mysqli->query($query) // Get Row $row = $result->fetch_row(); // echo name and testimonial echo $row[0]." - ".$row[1]; // Free The Result mysqli_free_result($result); // Close Connection mysqli_close($link); ?> Hope that helps, may not work out of the box but you get the idea!
  2. There isn't anything to "convert", naming a file with the .php extention will allow you to use php code within the file. If you want to name it .php and fill it with pure html you can do.
  3. Add the testimonials to a mysql database then load five random ones into an array, then loop out the array. Will solve your problem on duplicates as well.
  4. You missed out step seven. Post your blog post on forums to get yourself traffic
  5. Also you could look at submitting a php form with cURL. (Educational reasons by backside).
  6. I forgot to man an introduction thread (I think). I'm Aaron Clifford, 25 from Broadstairs, Kent. I'm a full time self employed web developer and head of development on an upcoming network of uk parenting websites. My main skills are PHP/MYSQL based, I literally have zero design skills! I'm a full Nominet member (.uk registrar), I don't however public registrations I run a .uk public back order service. Hello.
  7. From my own experience with .uk domains (I'm a .uk registrar) I've found hyphenated .uk domains can rank just as well as non hyphened in the search engines. Depending on the sites content I have found non hyphenated .org.uk domains have ranked considerably better than hyphenated .co.uk domains, this is just from my own experience. If it is a "proper business" and not just a mini site/affiliate site then I'd look at the hyphenated co.uk or a different non hyphenated .co.uk.
  8. Our current network of sites has a pretty limited search engine based on searching for the word within the title or content of the search term. I'm keen to make this a bit more advanced, I'm a PHP coder myself so would be doing the work however I am happy to hear peoples opinions on how you would approach it and what features you would incorperate. What would you approach to development be? How would you search the database? Any help appreicated as always keen to add to my own ideas! Current Database Structure - Articles -> Article Title -> Article Content - Sub Levels -> Sub Level Title -> Sub Level Content - Top Levels -> Top Level Title -> Top Level Content We currently search all three tables within there title/content for the search term entered % search term% or %search term%.
  9. It's loading and working fine for me now, possible that it was a DNS issue? I'd look at replacing all them images with text in to just text, will help with rankings.
  10. When did you update the nameservers, the name was registered three days ago. If they were set when you registered the name we can rule that out at least as it's been three days, .uk really only takes a few hours max most of the time to resolve.
  11. The double sliders underneath the main sliders for me are pointless, the design one doesn't show hardly anything and doesn't link anywhere and the code one is completly pointless. As someone said above the cookie warning is massive, far too big.
  12. We've been using a dedi from Fasthosts (Unmanaged), and the hardware is pretty solid. We have a pretty large UK site that's had no issues in the two years we've been hosted with Fasthosts. I've no doubt the "managed" low end cheap hosting is awful though!. It's not even resolving for me?
  13. I'd defintely go for one page, any more and it just looks boring, and looks like your trying to bumph it up with rubbish...people are happier to see what you can do on a single page, not what you can't do over five pages.
  14. I'm presuming he is looking for a piece of "web software" over a computer program...but it's a shot in the dark. I'm guessing on a low budget something like Wordpress will be ideal for you as it has a vast array of plugins that will allow you to present videos, images and documents in a readable and understandable format, However if you aren't looking for something web based then I have no idea, .
  15. Ah, using the browser. I'd not expect a smart phone to be much below the iphone screen size nowadays and it's fine on there so I wouldn't worry too much!
