  1. You want to look into the range object. This will make things easier - http://code.google.com/p/rangy/wiki/RangyRange. I've not looked at the project for a while and looks like there's a new offshoot project specifically for inputs and textareas.

Have you checked the value of $convert in the page source?
  3. This gives a very quick overview of two techniques for manipulating browser history http://videos.mozill...ip-writeup.html This may be helpful if you want to give it a go - https://github.com/b...ton/History.js/ though I use Powertools plugin for Mootools personally.
  4. In mootools-SplashScreen.js change showSplash:function(){ this.splash.setStyles({ 'height':window.getScrollHeight(), 'display':'block', 'opacity':'0' }).fade('in'); to showSplash:function(){ this.splash.setStyles({ 'height':window.getScrollHeight(), 'display':'block', 'opacity':'1' });
  5. Googling 'sticky footer' should find you what you need

That maybe a sign your hard drive is on the way out - can be caused by the drive not getting to speed quick enough. Might be worth checking the SMART status. You'll probably be able to find some freeware to do that though can't recommend anything - I use Onyx on our Macs. If it is a hard drive problem, from my experience it may become more and more regular before failing completely, though I'd back up anything important now just to be on the safe side.
  8. It's probably the outline property causing the dotted line and it does have accessibility value allowing a user that is navigating by a keyboard to see when an element is focused. This page at CSS-Tricks has more info, including removing it. If you do choose to remove it, then they also offer advice on adding another visual clue to focus which I would advise considering.
  9. Your image suggests that the leading has been set to a small value - certainly that would be the first thing to check. The screen grab shows the text palette is open so if you select all the text and then use the text palette to set the leading to Auto, the space between lines should adjust automatically when text is resized.
  10. I really like that. Cat owners can be a bit of an odd bunch and I think it's got a bit of a fairytale feel. The wife considers all our cats to be her little princess, including Dave!
  11. My wife used to use a Windows laptop like that some years ago and as Andy pointed out before me, he knows people using MacBooks exactly that way. Throw in a keyboard and mouse and you've got many of the benefits of desktop set-up and the advantages of a laptop when you want to work somewhere a little more comfortable. I don't know Talarrubias, the nearest I've been is Castuera, though the property sales site I maintain, Property in Extremadura, recently listed a small place to the north of you near Puerta Peña. I'll drop you a PM so this doesn't turn into a dull thread about Extremadura.
  12. If you're happy with the performance of your Mac Book, I'd buy a monitor and just hook into that when you need to use Indesign, Photoshop or Illustrator - a 13" screen should be large enough when you're coding. Apple offer a 24" monitor now that seems to be aimed strongly at laptop users. If you're going to buy a desktop, you've obviously got the 2 options. If you go for an iMac, I'd suggest buying the best that you can afford as you'll be limited in options in upgrading it in future. On the Mac Pro side, one of the earlier quad cores will probably be sufficient. I think you'll find a few on ebay.es and probably save a thousand euros or more over a new 8 core Nehalem powered machine - just don't get distracted by any G5s that you find offered. On a side point, whereabouts in south west Spain are you?
  13. First thing I'd try is downloading a copy of Batchmod - it's donationware and makes life a lot easier when with dealing permissions on OS X.
  14. The error message you're getting is because your csv file doesn't contain the correct number of values on the first line for the table you're importing into. If your table has 5 columns, each line of the csv file must contain 5 values separated by a comma. If the csv file contains a different number of values, you can open it in Excel or Open Office Calc and add or delete columns as required, and if necessary change the order of the columns to match the order of the columns in the table. One other quick point, if you use PHPMyAdmin, you can import cvs files through that interface.
  15. I'm a huge fan of Eclispse though accept it can be pretty fragile at times and my first PHP enabled install took some 5 hours on OS X. I'm using the free Zend download now and have found that a lot more robust - no problems in 6 months. Under Windows it can still be a bit flaky by dragging its heels, but I can tolerate an occasional restart - it's no less reliable than Vista itself. From what I've read about Aptana, it's very powerful, but the one install I tried under Vista wouldn't work, probably related to a previous Eclispe install. If I didn't have a solid install of Eclispe, I'd look into it again - as some of the other comments have suggested Eclipse based IDEs can be unpredictable or entertaining depending on your point of view. Netbeans would certainly be worth a look though I couldn't get it to network between Windows and OS X machines which is why I gave up on it. I'd back up the comments about Notepad++ and wish I could replace Textwrangler on the Macs with it, however it's a text editor and while that may suit some users for daily use, I find Eclipse better suits my workflow.
  16. Apologies if this has been posted before, but this does seem to sum up the attitude of so many potential clients, particularly those that post in the marketplace here at WDF. Saw this posted over at Designers Talk earlier today and credit to Chris_G, the original poster. Perhaps it should be a sticky in the Looking to Hire section as a warning!
  17. I know that horrible feeling. Which version of Windows did the dirty? I spent a day last weekend recovering files from the wife's laptop after Vista went into a perpetual loop on start-up. She uses Mozy, but wasn't sure hidden files were backed-up. Rather than a clean install of Vista, I was lucky enough to be able to use a Gparted live CD to add a new partition and put a new copy of Vista in there. She can access all her old files and applications, though not all the apps work.
  18. Like Andy, I like the idea, though I'll stick with KeePassX - I only ever work from home and I can use a single password file across OS X, Windows and Linux machines. I don't want to sound too negative, but I wonder about the security of storing this information on a web server, particularly if using shared hosting. That is, however, a decision for your customers. What I would want, if I were thinking about purchasing, would be the chance to try a demo of the app on your website. Also I'd like to know the licensing information upfront. Can I install this on as many servers as I like if I buy it once?
  19. You want to download the 'Windows — .exe installer' from http://www.inkscape.org/download/ Inkscape's a nice app - doesn't have the power of Illustrator but is pretty user friendly and can do most things you'll want.
  20. As snowywebsolutions says, you'll need a serverside language to do what you describe. However assuming you're using a version of Dreamweaver from MX onwards or earlier UltraDev, Dreamweaver should be able to produce all the code for you without you needing to know a thing about PHP. Before I learnt PHP, I relied on Dreamweaver and also bought several of the Impakt plug-ins - I belive Impakt have since been bought out by Adobe. Try looking through the help files or googling for tutorials on using server side includes or recordsets in Dreamweaver. Sorry I can't offer anymore specific help, but I haven't used Dreamweaver for several years now.
  21. I didn't pay any attention to your code yesterday, just scanned the brackets. This error is because the file $strresume doesn't exist. Try using fopen on $filetemp and changing all variable references that start $strresume - the ones to change to should be self-explanatory. I think the way you construct the email may throw more errors once you get beyond this - I think the headers look incomplete for a multipart/mixed email. If you try Googling 'php mail attachment' you'll find a few pages offering complete scripts, but I'd recommend you take a look at Swiftmailer. The great advantage is that it allows the sending of email via SMTP which seems to help avoid some intermittent problems with emails appearing corrupt in some clients. One last thought - if you're new to PHP and using snippets of code from various sources to put scripts together, you may find it easier to integrate code from different places if you use single and double quotes around strings, rather heredoc quoting. That is, however, a personal taste and if you find heredoc or newdoc quoting works for you, there's no need to change.
  22. If an error is thrown right at the end of the file, my own experience is that it's always caused by failing to close all open curly brackets. I think you've failed to close the one that opens with the IF statement - sorry if I've read that wrong. You may find tools like Eclipse, Notepad++ or Textwrangler useful in these situations as they all allow you to match opening and closing brackets which can make these errors obvious. Eclipse with a PHP plugin will also highlight such errors.
  23. If the only reason you're thinking of using the 2 domains is because you don't want to lose the good work you've done SE wise with peaksoftnet.co.uk, then I'd follow M8 Internet's advice. This page has advice on setting up a 301 permanent redirect - there's a few ways to do it, but I'd try the one titled 'Redirect Old domain to New domain (htaccess redirect)' first. This will transfer any SE rankings from the peaksoftnet.co.uk domain to derbyshirewebdesign.co.uk If you've no real reason for running 2 sites, then it would probably be best to concentrate on one and try and make that as valuable as possible rather than potentially running 2 diluted sites.
  24. Hi Kevin Might I suggest ditching the landing page altogether? If I stumbled the page you linked to I'd have moved on immediately but if I landed on your search page, even with no musical interest, I would have stopped to take a look. From a user point of view on the search, I would like the search to remember what I'd just searched for so that rather than re-enter all search criteria, I could just change a single parameter. Also I'd make the reason for failures to find any adverts more obvious, perhaps over the map, and phrase them in plain English - I think I got one error (possibly red wine vision kicking in) referring to the 'web app' or 'database' which isn't much help to your users. Other than that, from a user point of view it looks a really nicely executed site. Would the concept work as a widget that could be plugged into other sites?
  25. If you've been approached by an interested party about a site you haven't actively planned to sell, I'd suggest letting them make the running as to value. I was approached a few weeks ago by someone interested in buying one of the wife's domains and mentioned it to her. She took the view that she'd listen to offers and I replied that if they were serious they could make an offer and it would be considered. We'd worked on the basis that the domain wouldn't be worth much, but when we considered the full cost to us of letting that domain go, the sale price became quite significant for a minor url. The first point to consider was the advertising revenue - as this wasn't a well performing site, it hadn't seemed a major consideration at first, but with no effort it makes £50 a month. If you use 3 years gross as a marker, that values the domain at £1800 to us. However we would have replaced the site to reuse the content and that would bring in the cost of a new site. In this case only the url was in question, but in your case you also need to add your going rate for the build of such a site. Very quickly it became easy to argue that we'd need to sell at over £4000 before even thinking seriously about it. As it is, we never heard from them again, but I think working out what a site actually makes for you helps with valuations. Ian PS snorkelshack isn't some kind of deviant sexual practise is it? If so ignore the above and start by pitching it around the million mark!
