Mouses have no bearing on web design
 
It pays to buy something of reasonable quality though that fits your hand and is easy to use. You could go for extras like a scrollwheel, 3rd button, side buttons and so on but that's really personal preference. I've always used a simple two-button mouse and that suits me

Just to add; fireworks won't make you a better web designer.

My name is Jon, I live in Ipswich, Suffolk, in the east of england.
Some of you may now about FOCUS DIY and what is happening to them, well that is where I work.. for now.
I have worked at focus for 4 years now and they have gone bust so will be being made redundant in the next few weeks. However I am also a self employed kitchen fitter but I got too comfortable getting all my work from FOCUS. So because they are going down, they are taking me with them .
 
So I am trying to think of what I should go into next ( I was never satisfied with either of those two ) and I am thinking of Web Design. I have read the basics tutorial on www.w3schools.com and www.HTMLDog.com and have been having a little play, nothing serious, and I really enjoy it, so I have decided to pursue this.
 
Anywho, As I am being made redundant I will be entitled to £500 towards a course of my choosing. Can anyone suggest a good Web design course? I know I can learn for free from many of the online tutorials but it would be a shame to let something like that go to waste eh?!

Currently working my portfolio just like everyone else. I've known HTML and CSS for a number of years but I've just sat ontop of it until a few months ago, now moving pretty fast through javascript and PHP (or I'd like to think so!).
 
All my knowledge is self taught, although I've done a number of years in graphic design and generalised art & design which helps alot!
 
My hobbies range from everything start from photography to a hardware enthuisiast. Currently working as a Large format printer doing everything you can think of
 
Hopefully you'll be seeing alot of me around here, along with a few questions heading your way! Although I'd like to think I'll be able to help a few people along the way with any printing/hardware knowledge!

Wordpress is one of the easier ones to make custom themes for, as you are new I would download some free themes inspect their code try editing css to get the feel for it.
 
Once your comfortable making a new stylesheet for a template try messing with the php files and wordpress codex.
 
But before you start look at the Wordpress Codex learn more about themes, theme anatomy, theme hierarchy etc....
 
Then by this stage your ready for the tuts on tuts+ network, they explain more about the php files and as you know the codex by now it will begin to sink in, and we are here if you need us.
