  1. Understand how JavaScript works, no need to master it, but know it to the level where you will appreciate the ease of using JQuery
  2. Why are you wearing lipstick?
  3. Thank you very much, really usefully tool, solved my problems I am sure it will come in handy in future as well
  4. That is the problem you see, I dont recall exactly where I have found them. I could find a couple of new ones on Flickr and get permission for them, but the really good ones that I need are rare military photos, and even though I searched I wasnt able to find a source to...
  5. I really have no clue who they belong to and I don't think there is a way to find out - unless one day I don't get a call from someones grand grand son demanding a portion of my profit that is
  6. How legal would it be to use old photos of random people from the 19th century in a web template (or any design in general)?
  7. Font squirrel has a bunch of free ones, ready for @font face. You can browse them HERE
  8. Myfonts offers most fonts in both TrueType and PostScript format. My question is does this refer only to the desktop use of the font, since I don't know how a PostScript font can even work with "@font face"? In other words, are their web embedding kits the same (with cross browser support) regardless of type format choice? For an example just check the "Buying choices" panel of any random font they sell.
  9. You should first learn web design quite well and only after that, create your own portfolio. It seams to me you did the opposite . +rep to dap's post
  10. Check out http://htmldog.com/ best beginner site IMO
  11. I was think about offering it to some place like Smashing Magazine, since it seams to me that those sites attract a finer clientele than stock sites. But I still first have to design he theme
  12. So, do you think it is worth the effort to create a free WordPress or Tumblr theme in order to promote your business?
  13. Not that it's bad, only that, from some reason, its strikingly similar to the branding of a know multivitamins company... Huh?!
  14. There is a bug when viewed on a 1920x1080 resolution (see image) Other than that its excellent, don't change anything.
  15. Its good, just reduce the size of the header circles a bit that way it would be even better and also fit in a 1024x786 resolution perfectly. Another thing, the scrollable at the bottom looks good, but do you really need it? It just scrolls the same 4 picture back and forth (maybe you will add more stuff latter?)
  16. In Firefox you have a gap on both sides of the menu. To avoid such problems, as Wickham said use fixed width for the list items, and bottom and top padding for height. Also, put the whole menu list inside a div tag that has the exact dimensions you need and has the background color you need for the menu. Than just position and adjust your menu size to fit accordingly. And another thing, I know you are not asking for a review for the design, but, can you please tell me what is the point of the radioactive, acid clouds floating in the header around the debaters? Or the unreadable text in the footer? Hope you work on those issues as well, and all is good at the end...
  17. Something in between Dreamweawer & notepad would be the best choice Like Coda or Espresso for Mac... But if you are just starting I think Dreamweaver is the better choice, just don't relay on the WYSIWYG aspect to much (learn how to code!). And eventually you will want to abandon Dreamweaver, like many have, since you will find it easier to hand code you stuff and your code will be much better than Dreamweavers.
  18. Watch "Dreamweaver CS5 Essential Training" on Lynda.com as well as "Web Design Fundamentals" on the same site (and don't forget to do the exercise files as well). It will teach you a lot about how the web functions, the role of web design and how to use Dreamweaver without relying on the WYSIWYG aspect to much. And, as others have stated - W3C schools. Good luck, I am sure all will go well.
  19. Put this code at the beginning of your external CSS html, body, div, span, applet, object, iframe, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, blockquote, pre, a, abbr, acronym, address, big, cite, code, del, dfn, em, font, img, ins, kbd, q, s, samp, small, strike, strong, sub, sup, tt, var, b, u, i, center, dl, dt, dd, ol, ul, li, fieldset, form, label, legend, table, caption, tbody, tfoot, thead, tr, th, td { margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; font-size: 100%; vertical-align: baseline; } It should remove all the browser default styling, so that your code can be the same regardless of browser. Maybe that is causing the problem.
  20. Give it some space, some air to breath. The text should not be that close to the borders of the wrappers, it looks kinda stuck. Also try to give the whole site a bit of a more "adventurous", spirit
  21. It really depend on what kind of site you need the hosting for. If you are doing small sites aimed at a local audience, Google is your best friend here... Your should try searching for local hosting providers that usually have smaller packages and are cheaper. Other option is to just go with some of the proven hosting service like Media Temple, where many international companies host their websites. You might consider this option if you have a steady flow of clients and want to offer them hosting as well. Anyways, before buying the service try to find some third party reviews if you can and if you have any questions, don't be afraid to use their free technical support (and if they don't offer such a thing they probably suck). Hope all goes well...
  22. Validation should become natural to you, its very easy actually, just use logic - what element is best represented by what HTML tag, and there should be no problems.
