  1. Very cool! Different shape to the norm!! Stands out from the crowd!
  2. Thanks very much for the advice (reassurance!!!) thought I was missing a trick!!
  3. Hello everyone, Thinking through an upcoming project and was deliberating how best to go about this issue: the home page has 4 categories of articles, in each category the latest 3 articles would need to be displayed. The point would be what would be the recommended way of delivering the latest articles? I was thinking all articles would be cataloged in MySQL with php extracting the three recent articles?!! Any help or point to's>> would be greatly appreciated. Best regards

Hi everyone, Just wanted to point people in the direction of www.lunascape.tv This browsers runs using three engines, Webkit Trident and Gecko
  5. Nice professional looking work! keep it up!
  6. Nice article! Thanks. Neat and tidy business cards too... cool!
  7. Hey there, From my humble fellow amateur point of view, I would: Remove all z-index, position:absolute and position:relative. Those ways seem to get really complicated. Then working left-right top-bottom container (holding all the content, width, margin:auto) Header: Logo 'Flashing Text' Address (three divs, float:left; using margins to space them accordingly) main content: linkbar using an unordered list <ul> display: inline so they go across rather then down then again two divs floated and spaced using margins, then the last div with the bulk text with another unordered list <ul> at the bottom. Like I said I am still trying to learn myself and some of the pros on here would be able to tell you more semantic ways of going around this, without using so many divs. Best regards!
  8. Hi, Great looking design, good colors perhaps change the fish to ££££ symbols? and maybe bring the logo 'Sink My Debt' a little higher to make a bit more obvious. Just a thought!!
  9. you could try www.creditsafeuk.com
  10. I would like again to thank everyone for there time commenting on my work. I would now ask you all, if I can: When you first started out, after looking at your first website how did you feel? What did you do to reflect upon your design? and how does my design/ code compare to your virgin design? Maybe you still have them lurking around somewhere? share if you can! I just want to gauge where I am at, as I have been designing for the web for 7 weeks? obviously I have asked friends and family, but believe perhaps they was sparing feelings? maybe trying not to discourage me? And if you could change 3 things in the design, what would they be? Again thanks for your time! p.s the link bar was practice using the sprite technique!
  11. Thanks for your time in your detailed response, Davep. Very much appreciated! Like I posted at the beginning of the thread I have been learning the web side of design, now in my 7th week! There are a few quirks I have discovered! and others! and you! so thanks everyone for your time! I am currently working on an alternative, so when that is done I'll come back to the guillotine again!!
  12. I'm not pretending to be 'experienced' etc. but you would agree everyone started somewhere! Therefore I don't mean any offence to any of you professionals that are kind enough to release pearls of wisdom once in a while. I didn't see the point of plastering the facts that I am learning, training etc. onto the site. I do have plans to design a few sites for free, currently working a site for a church and a friend who models part time. I am deadly serious with designing, it has really caught my imagination and my girlfriend even comments of the new woman in my life!! LOL! Thankyou for all feedback and your time taken to have a look, it is very much appreciated.
  13. well maxson, have you anything to show that can spark my imagination?? I was thinking six weeks=website=quite good.... how long you been designing?
  14. cheers for the feedback JMC note..I've been learnign six weeks??!! lol.. what browser did you view the site with?? as the box is meant to light up on hover. thanks for the advice though it is duly noted and I will rethink the scheme!
  15. Hello, Started web designing roughly six weeks ago, getting to grips with XHTML, CSS PHP etc. My head has been stuck in tutorials and books, I would like some reviews on my DEBUT design!! Let me know what you think!!! My link
  16. Hi guys, I have tweaked and tweaked, googled and yahoo'ed, my linkbar gets offset in IE, and I need some help with a hack to use in my ext. stylesheet... heres my css and it works fine in chrome, opera and firefox.....but not IE ul#linksp {width:940px; list-style-type:none; margin:auto; margin-top:1em; position:relative; float:left; left:-35px;} ul#linksp li {float:left;} ul#linksp li a {background-image:url(images/linksprite.png); background-position:0px 0px; margin:auto; width:940px; height:37px; display:inline; float:left; text-indent:-9999px;} I need to hack the first line so IE sees it as "left:0px;" or maybe the vice versa would correct the problem! thanks for any advice....
  17. like the link buttons!! cool! only thing i would say is the background being gray? maybe a blue or gradient? looks good though I'd be happy with that!!!
  18. Looking good, like the color scheme.
  19. "personally, I would try and fix the problem without a conditional sheet if you can - this is a common bug, and should be easy to sort out." I've been here hard at it it not just a bug....... its a pain in the a**h*l*!!! any tips to get round this? I was thinking maybe its due to it sitting within the div, an issue with that but that seems to be o.k I'll get it straight in IE and its screwed in other browsers and vice versa, I think I'm losing my marbles
  20. Is there a way to create a CSS rule for IE that the other browsers will ignore?? and vice versa??
  21. Ok yeah that works...... but..... its no offsetting the whole bar a little to the right in the other browsers??!!?? and in IE it is forcing it down a little. I'm working through it now so if you have any ideas.... what makes IE different to all the rest??
  22. the css: #links {width:940px; height:37px; margin:0; padding:0;} ul#linksp {width:940px; list-style-type:none; margin:0 auto; margin-top:1em; position:relative; left:-35px;} ul#linksp li a {background-image:url(images/linksprite.png); background-position:0px 0px; margin:auto; width:940px; height:37px; display:block; float:left; text-indent:-9999px;} ul#linksp a.web2 {width:154px; background-position:0 0;} ul#linksp a.graphics2 {width:180px; background-position:-154px 0;} ul#linksp a.photo2 {width:144px; background-position:-334px 0;} ul#linksp a.blog2 {width:108px; background-position:-478px 0;} ul#linksp a.portfolio2 {width:108px; background-position:-586px 0;} ul#linksp a.cv2 {width:108px; background-position:-694px 0;} ul#linksp a.contact2 {width:138px; background-position:-802px 0;} ul#linksp li a.web2:hover {width:154px; background-position: 0 -38px;} ul#linksp li a.graphics2:hover {width:180px; background-position: -154px -38px;} ul#linksp li a.photo2:hover {width:144px; background-position: -334px -38px;} ul#linksp li a.blog2:hover {width:108px; background-position: -478px -38px;} ul#linksp li a.portfolio2:hover {width:108px; background-position: -586px -38px;} ul#linksp li a.cv2:hover {width:108px; background-position: -694px -38px;} ul#linksp li a.contact2:hover {width:138px;background-position: -802px -38px;} the HTML: <div id="links"> <ul id="linksp"> <li><a href="webdesign.xhtml" class="web2" alt="web design" title="web design"></a></li> <li><a href="graphicsdesign.xhtml" class="graphics2" alt="graphics design" title="graphics design"></a></li> <li><a href="photography.xhtml" class="photo2" alt="photography services" title="photography services"></a></li> <li><a href="blog.xhtml" class="blog2" alt="blog" title="blog"></a></li> <li><a href="portfolio.xhtml" class="portfolio2" alt="portfolio" title="portfolio"></a></li> <li><a href="cv.xhtml" class="cv2" alt="my cv" title="my cv"></a></li> <li><a href="contact.xhtml" class="contact2" alt="contact me" title="contact me"></a></li> </ul> </div> thanks for the help fellas, appreciate it. Its probably something simple being overlooked but as I said the other browsers render it correctly!!
  23. Hi everyone, just a quick one, i've got a linkbar bar across the top of my page, using css sprite technique, two images changing on hover, well in opera, chrome and firefox it renders correctly, but IE staggers them like steps. Its driving me nuts, been looking for IE hacks but it is confusing the hell outta me!!! Please someone give a brother a hand!! See the file and you'll see what I mean!!
  24. sorry if this sounds completely stupid....... subdomain= www.example.com/musicsite or www.musicsite.com ???? they will probably have a rolling catalogue of tracks and videos so the size will be variable..... I've been designing for about two months with html/css, integrating javascript and jquery, bla bla do you think 250 sounds reasonable to do the project ?
