January 4, 201016 yr Hello! I'm currently working on a design for a University student portal. I think it's looking near enough finished now, therefore I'd appreciate your thoughts on what I've got so far. You can view it here. Thank you
January 4, 201016 yr It looks good and professional to me but still fresh and energetic. The only thing is that if Javascript is deactivated it's really messy. The twitter bird looks a little bit misplaced somehow. I don't like it sticking it's tail in the email button The text in the university logo is blurry do you have a better version?
January 5, 201016 yr Loads up smartly, twitter bird looks fine to me. Looks fine in 1024 and larger widths. I like the subtle movements of the navigation bar. And I'm assuming each section is colour-coded according to the colour strips on the navigation buttons. The only practical problem I can see with this navigation is as you get into the individual pages, where does the navigation got to? Do you use 50/60% of the screen for the navigation toolbar. With more complicated sites normally navigation is simple and "thin" - either horizontally or vertically. So the user knows the navigation is always in the same place, no matter what the page. That green on burgundy on the bottom doesn't look right.
January 5, 201016 yr Spot on so far. As stated above though, you need to get your site to degrade gracefully when JavaScript is off otherwise it looks bad. Furthermore, you may find this a problem as most places such as Universities and colleges have JavaScript turned off on public campus computers and in classrooms etc, well at least they did when I was studying, although that was many millennia ago.
January 5, 201016 yr Author I've been trying to get it to degrade nicely with Javascript turned off, but the problem is with the jQuery innerfade plugin, as it doesn't degrade well when Javascript is turned off. EDIT: Never mind, fixed it .
