  1. Ahh, this is just what I was going to ask about! Glad someone else has posted this. Have ordered that book as it looks good. Regards, Jess
  2. I've not managed to read through all of the replies, but this is similar to what I'm attempting to achieve. The header spanning the full width of the screen, and the footer, each with their own individual background colors, and the content being centered. But as you said, the mentioned technique here only works with an entire site being a fixed width. Would you be able to expand on what the basics are of achieving the above? Regards, Jessica
  3. Your completly right. I wasn't so happy with the contact me page either really (regarding the scroll bar and the like). Think i'm going to stretch it out a bit. Cheers! Jessica
  4. Ive used Mambo in the past, a branch from Joomla. Designing your own theme/templates can be a real pain, for sure. I found http://psd2cssonline.com/ to be some what useful in the past. If you have photoshop, psd2cssonline converts your psd file to a joomla 1.5 template. I've not used the Joomla side of it, but i've heard it's a pretty good website. Apart from that there is several Joomla sites laying around, some quite good information about developing an already made template to suit your needs. Keep digging, i'm sure you'll find what your looking for. Regards, Jessica
  5. I'm only new to the forum myself, but defiantly defiantly the new site, looks 100% more professional than the one your using currently. Regards, Jessica
  6. Welcome on board! Regards, Jessica
  7. Hey guys, Thank you SO much for the replies, your advice is really really appreciated. I applied the changes you suggested, and can't believe the difference it made/makes. Simply making the main content boxes a little larger really helps the overall feel of the website. Again, thank you. Regards, Jessica
  8. Hello and Welcome! Lots of people from near me, i live in near Peterborough. Hope to get to know you better. Regards, Jessica
  9. Thanks for the lovely reply guys. Jessica
  10. Hey there! I'm here to introduce myself, something I wanted to do before I actively start posting on the forums! I'm Jessica, I've been Website designing, and later developing for the past 3 - 4 years, it was only something i ever really did as a hobby, in my free time, but am now looking to turn it in to a career choice, so have decided to try and become an active member of a few website design forums, like this one, to gain knowledge from people doing this work for much longer than i have! I look forward to getting you know you, Regards, Jessica
  11. Hey all, Some background: I've been website designing/developing for a while, only really in my spare time, nothing professionally before. I'm looking to start my own business in this field, as I really think I have the capability of making the whole adventure work, but this is my first professional site for a client, and I'm a little nervous, lacking some confidence i guess as I've only ever done it in my free time. The site is at http://iomhouseclearancecompany.ejessdesigns.com. (It's on my own hosting, but I haven't done much with my own website yet). Some honest opinions would make a big difference, i can tell you that for sure! I'm not 100% happy with the background, and the navigation to me just doesn't quite fit in with the look of the site. I've not linked the site map to anything yet, and there isn't any links on the links page. The actually page content hasn't been properly added, but you get the idea! I look forward to hearing your opinions. Regards, Jessica
