I've done my best to google it but have had no luck. Quite simply I want to implement a form onto a website I'm working on that enables the user to enter their Vehicle Registration details, which will then autofill the rest of the form's fields i.e. (Make, Model etc etc) Something similar to this:

Thanks. I have done that search before and haven't really got anywhere with it. I assumed it would involve the DVLA naturally, but I still can't find anything relevant to the actual implementation of that service on my own site. I'm not trying to build a car checking website, I just wanted to make a spare parts enquiry form a bit easier for the end user and save them the hassle of entering too many details.

my guess is that you will have to pay someone, if not the DVLA, for access to this information.

You'll have to just contact the DVLA. There isn't likely to be any "ready-to-go" API you can just hook in to.

Ok. I'm just surprised there's nothing more about the topic online (that I could find anyway) given the number of websites that seem to have this facility. I would have thought the DVLA had some mention of it on their site, even if it's as little as "call or e-mail us etc"

probably this statement says it all "The companies below are able to provide a vehicle checking service for the public and motor trade."

 

They've outsourced it to selected companies who I suspect will offer varying degrees of service ie. what can be looked up and how much it will cost.

It's probably just a closed off system, and to be honest I'd be surprised if you don't have to pay for it, and quite a lot. After all, you'd be using their information.

Yeah I was under no illusion about having to pay for the service. I'll try some of the 3rd party organisations and see where I get. Cheers anyway
