Guidance on creating My first Portfolio Website
Hi Guys It's a new year and I need to get cracking on what will be my first ever portfolio website. I'm a web designer at heart so I'm more into the Photoshop and Front end UI stuff although I do know a lot about the theory of HTML and CSS having read lots of books on it. Because I am using this as a promotion tool to get a new job by the summer, I want to feel confident that I will get this done by the summer and having thought of all the obstacles that I know comes with coding and testing a website I'm thinking of using a product like Adobe Muse which is a product that allows designers to concentrate on the one thing they love doing: designing! while simutanously taking care of the coding headache.without having to worry about writing a single line of code. However because I have never coded a real life project website before in my life (apart from following coding tutorials) I'm kinda thinking that I'm gonna have to get my hands dirty with coding client website one day, so why not hand code it myself from scratch and learn from my mistakes along the way. However what puts me off from commiting to this route is not knowing how long this is going to take and how frustrating this is going to be. Also all I have to hand in my portfolio is a bunch of Photoshop designs that I have produced for client websites although unfortunatly none of them were chosen to be taken into coding production, a lot of my portfolio work was taken on by following briefs from the 99 designs website. Do you think it will matter to much if the web designs that I promote in my portfolio are just that photoshop page designs that don't link to any existing website? Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to your replies.

How quick to do you have to be to work in a web design agency
Hi Guys Just wanted to hear from anyone who has worked for a web design agency particularly in London, as that is where I want to be come this summer when Im looking for a new job. I'm particularly interested in how much time you get to spend on a web design project in particular the research to photoshop concept phase, ie what would be the turn around time to produce a home page and 1 sub page design for a client. Because the more I read about the web design process, the more I hear about how crucial it is to spend a few weeks just on the research phase, wire framing, UX design, information architecture etc, and all those other content decisions that need to be nailed down before you even think about firing up Photoshop. But I get the impression that even though this kind of advice is preached across a lot of books, I get the feeling that in the real world, no one gets afforded that much time to work on a web design project and that all those decisions need to be made in a matter of days by the designer, a lot of it being an internal process, are my assumptions correct? Thanks Consecca

Need help on finding some web design projects
Hi Guys I wanted to know where most of you guys begin when you decide you want to create a new online portfolio of work, consisting purley of web design sites. I have tried bidding for projects online to take on but ethier I don't win the bid or the money they are offering is ridiculously low and I refuse to do work for peanuts. However all of this bidding doesnt seem to be getting me anywhere and in the mean time is only delaying me getting started on a body of fresh work that I need to put togther if I am to be succesful in applying for a new web design job in the new year. So instead I've decided I would be better off taking on fictional web design briefs that are typically written for students that I can use as a springboard for getting started. Can anyone on here point me to some detailed web design briefs online or any books containing web design projects that I can take on?

pricing up a quote for a website build
Hi All I am looking to take on designing web sites for free just so I can build up my portfolio, while im working on the side, by designing i literallly mean just designing the interface (look and feel) in photoshop then handing it over to a web developer to code up in HTML/CSS. I've had a recent request from one client who wants me to design and build him a website on a limited budget, like ive said above I am happy to design him a website for free, for now, just so it will give me an opportunity to build up my portfolio, but obsiously I don't expect an experienced developer to code/build the website for free as well, when it comes to handing over my photoshop work. I need to provide my client a quote for the cost of building this website, What would be a realistic ballpark figure that I can provide my client for the cost of building a: 10page static website using HTML and CSS PLUS hosting......Any other costs I need to factor into the quote? Thanks in advance guys, I look forward to all your replys. :-)
