  1. Its the one thing I hate with web design, getting colours that go. Does anyone know of any sites to get some help from? What do you use to get ideas for colours? Thanks! Edit - Meh, I'm blind, just seen the sticky at the top! Opps.
  2. Thanks, I'll have a look at that! Heard about Textwrangler, downloaded it and pretty impressed with it so far! Thanks. I loved the look of Coda, but sadly can't afford to pay for any programs, and I only do it as a hobby, so free will be fine. Thanks again, +1 for you all .
  3. I used to use Notepad++ when I had a Windows laptop, but sadly that doesn't work with Macs, so I need to find another program. Which ones do you recommend? Looking for a free program as its only a small hobby. Many thanks!
  4. Thanks for the replies, in the end I went for PearTree, although I dont use much space etc, they offered more for the same price. And was rather simple to set up, seemed a lot of hassle with Skyte Media, having to email them etc for only a small blog.
  5. Hey, I'm after some advice on hosting, at the moment I'm with Dreamhost, but it runs out next week, and I cant afford the $120 to renew it (Managed to save $97 when I first joined, only reason I went with them). I dont use much bandwidth (last month was only 14mb), and around 200mb of disk space. I've had a quick search around the forum, and come across PearTree, from what I've seen, they look like they offer everything I need, and pretty cheap, does anyone have any experience with them? Or recommend any others? Thanks
  6. Ah think I see it now, not tried changing it as I'm not on my laptop, but will try that when I get it...should have looked more closely, was just a 'copy paste' job for the navigation, didn't look at what it was.
  7. Thanks for the reply, although it doesn't help me, as you've said what I've done already (which you would have seen if you looked at the coding...). I want to use 100% width...as its the only way I can think of making the image go across the whole page on most, if not all screen resolutions. Background image is 17px x 600px (I tried 1px x 600px and still didn't fix it). On my screen resolution, I've still got the bottom scroll bar...but surely as I'm using 100% width...it shouldn't be there?
  8. Hey, I'm having a small problem with a new layout I'm working on. www.kiernet.com/Test The main image at the top is too long...but I cant work out how to make it go across the page on most screen resuloutions without putting 'width: 100%;'...can anyone help with the scroll bar at the bottom? Thanks
  9. Messed around with a few things, link hover has changed, think it looks better, and also changed the font colour to dark grey, which does look ALOT better. Just cant find a font that I like for the header. Really starting to bug me now, also not a fan of gradients that much, and not very good at picking colours lol.
  10. Thanks for the replies What kind of font would be good? I'm not very good at that kinda thing lol, what else would be good for a secondary colour as well? A light blue maybe? Something similar to the colour in the logo for this forum? (Community of Web Designers and Developers)?
  11. Hey, I've created a new simple layout for my personal site/blog. www.kiernet.com I wanted something clean and simple, and pleased with the final outcome, however looking for ways to improve it. What things do you like about it? What dont you like it? What would you improve? Do the colours work well? I've not tested it in any other browsers yet, only Google Chrome and FireFox, or any other screen resolution other than 1920x1200, if someone can tell me if it looks OK in other settings. Thanks
  12. Oh god, cant believe it was that simple lol, cheers for that And I sorted the second part out, I put: <?php the_title(); ?> in the wrong place. Thanks again
  13. Hey, I've run into a few problems with Wordpress, I've not used it for a while, so having to learn everything again. First question is: On my comments page (www.kiernet.com), there is text in bold, which I cant get rid of, I've looked though, comments.php, single.php and function.php, and cant find anything in there, does anyone know what file it is, and what I'm looking for? My next question is: How do I make it so the title of the post, is in orange, and has the line under it? I can always do the new post, but cant work out how to do the rest, does anyone know? Thanks Edit - I've sorted the second one out.
  14. Thanks I decided to put it along the left hand side, under the twitter and facebook link. One more question, I'm thinking of putting a blog, but not sure what to use, does anyone have any opinions on what to use for it? I dont want to change my whole site for wordpress, and dont really like having to code my layout for wordpress.
  15. Lmfao xD...I thought I put that lol www.kiernet.com
  16. Hey, just wondering if someone is able to help me with a few ideas I've got for my website. I'm looking of having a 'Youtube clip of the week/day' or something, something where I can go into my code, and just paste the embedded code in and it shows, however I'm not sure where I want to put it. I was thinking about at the top where the photo is, would that work? If so, how would I go about it? The next thing is twitter updates, where would this be a good place to go? Cheers.
  17. Just had a look at that link, and it doesn't have what I'm looking for, does anyone know of any places?
  18. Yeah I understand that, but I'm hoping it is a static IP, plus I've only had one, so hoping its just someone being a idiot. Thanks I'll have a look at that after work, and yeah want it so when you hover over them they appear.
  19. Hey, got a couple of questions, the first on is about a drop down menu. For my Formula One website, I've got along the left hand side, the following: -Home -Drivers --Lewis Hamilton --Jenson Button --etc --etc -Tracks --Silverstone ---2009 ----Qualifying ----Race Results --Melbourne ---2009 ----Qualifying ----Race Results -Standings --Drivers standings --Constructor standings Where it has a '-', I would like it to be a parent link to the link starting with '--', which would be a parent link for '---', which would be a parent link for '----', it also needs to be a vertical one. I've had a quick look on Google, with no luck, or they seem really confusing, does anyone have any simple way of doing this? I understand that its going to be rather long considering how many links I'm going to need (around 125 at the moment). The next question I've got is, I've got a PHP contact form on my website, and is there a way I can get a copy of someone's IP to ban them? Had a comment sent that isn't appropriate, and would like to ban the person from my site. Cheers.
  20. Thanks, however that doesn't appeared to have worked. I've uploaded the files to: http://f1.kiernet.com/f1/ I've also gone with the image to keep the length etc, thanks for the advice
  21. Not 100% sure if this is what it is, but having a look at your source code, I came across this: <div style="display: none;"><snip></div> Is this in your original files on your computer? Was right at the very bottom, its also a hidden div so wont be seen.
  22. Hey, I'm sure this is really simple, but I cant work it out for the life of me. I've got a 2 column layout, however, I cant work out how to make the sidebar (on the left) continue all the way down the page, so its the same length the main content div. Does anyone know if this is possible? Also, while I'm here, when there is text in the 'main' div, its right up close to the text that will be in the 'sidebar' div, does anyone know how I can sort this? I've tried putting: margin-left:10px; In the 'main' div CSS. Thanks for any help.
  23. Modx is perfect, thanks Just got a quick question. http://f1.kiernet.com When you hover over 'circuits' it comes down with 'Australian', is there a way to, when hovering over 'Australian', another link appears to the right saying '2009', then when you hover over that, it has 'Qualifying' and 'Race'? I cant find a way of doing this. Thanks.
  24. Thanks, just came across that while searching though threads on here, think I'll have to wait until tomorrow to download it as its saying 4 hours to download :S.
  25. I'm looking to set up a new F1 site, I was thinking about updating it myself, but then when I made notes on how many pages there will be (looking at over 100), I thought it would be better and quicker to use a CMS, however I dont have a clue where to start and looking for some help. I want something that will allow me to do the following: Home page - Updates, F1 news etc, pretty sure most CMS's have this, small news story and then a 'read more' option. Drivers page - Page with photos and names of all the drivers, linking to individual drivers page Individual drivers page - Information on said driver, linked from 'drivers page'. Team page - Page with all the F1 teams, with logos, linking to individual team pages, with information about said team. Individual team page - Similar to individual drivers page, just about the teams. Champion standings - Page that is updated after every race with the champion standings, position, driver / team and points. As well as constructor standings. Circuits - Photo and name / date of the race circuit, photo linking to individual circuit page. Individual circuit page - Information on the race circuit, fastest lap etc, if the race has be held, the results. If anyone is able to give me some advice on a good CMS, one thing I dont want to happen, with Wordpress, when you create a page, it adds it to the sidebar, this is something I dont want to happen, apart from Drivers Page, Team page, Champion Standings and Circuits, the others just need to be linked from there. Hope that makes sense. I'm currently looking around for one, but due to using mobile internet, its going rather slow, and I'm not able to download many to try out. Thanks for any help.
