That's a pretty good site, I do personally use www.istock.com myself.

$1 an image, that's a nice deal, especially with the doller is so weak against the pound at the moment, only downside is being paid in dollers for some freelance projects...

 

Out of interest, how much commission do you get per image?

I've not got much up on the site, but if you visit my website and visit the links page there's a link at the bottom that goes straight to my portfolio. I do a lot of close-up photography but a lot of the images I've uploaded are from recent travels to Peru and Amsterdam. I intend to put more up there soon though when I get a slump in work and have nothing better to do.

By the sounds of things you dabble in all things Arty, is animation your main passion?

 

 

I'v really found a great love for vector art, and is something I would love to master, as the effects you can get are stunning, also this technique has become more and more mainstream, with Illustrator CS2 on the market it makes vector art much more easier to accomplish and give outstanding results.

 

I love animating, but don't get to do that much anymore. My first real web job was in a large company and as I was learning on the job I sort of moved in the direction of animation and flash as that's something I wanted to learn and I ended up getting the best jobs because of it - doing presentations and ecards and screensavers and games.

 

I always fancied doing pixel art as I fell in love with the pixel as soon as I became a web designer but it seems far too time consuming that I think I'll leave it to the experts.

One thing that's good about Dreamstime is that you get some really good free stock images - if you register and get an account - you can download a free image everyday. Not sure if other stock image libraries do this too.

Yes, I know what you mean, it's nice to have such a big resource available at such cheap prices, only problem is that they are not unique and have often recognised images from Stock sites around the net.

Very nice link Eskymo. Free stock photography does carry the possibility of being used by multiple people, but really, with the thousands and thousands of pics out there, will you really come across the same one that frequently?

You have to look at it from a stock photographer's point of view to decide which site has the most versatility. If you're looking for freebie pictures, there are literally dozens of these types of sites if you google "royalty free stock photo". For specific images, you might want to try shutterstock, but I heard bigstockphoto is decent as well. I also found this stock photo site, which is really cool national images.

I have to admit that I too have written down many of these suggestions. There are some sites out there I never knew about.

I very rarely use anything other than istockphoto really.

 

Lots of good content at a very reasonable price!

 

Perfect for projects when clients can't afford to pay getty prices, etc.

It's a lot cheaper than hiring a freelance photographer, too. LOL. I've gone that route and you don't always get what you want.

Yes, i agree that SXC.HU is very good, i have to say the quality of images is generally superb.

Another recommendation for SXC.hu here; you get some good quality images if you poke around a bit.
