I am a web designer. I use Joomla cms for all my websites. A good example is this website http://www.digitalwarriors.co.ke/ .I have never used Wordpress before therefore i have got no idea of how it works.

 

But one of my clients wanted to know the best cms to use. I definitely had no answer to this question because i dont use wordpress.

 

is there anyone who has used the two before? what is the big difference?

There is no "best", each CMS has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

 

You really need to look at the content types you need to manage and your clients abilities using CMS's before deciding/recommending any platform.

 

My advice is don't just jump to Wordpress, there are many better options available,

I'd argue almost anything is better than Joomla though, but what matters more is what you are most productive in. You would have to invest time into learning another CMS.

 

I'd argue in the long run it can be worth switching to something more modern. It's also important to consider how easy is it for the end client to pick up and use this CMS? Joomla has an awful interface for clients to update their content. Wordpress has a very good interface in comparison.

If you want to look at an alternative I have briefly used Craft after being recommended it by Jack on here and it seemed very good. I just moved away from PHP in my new role so haven't had the chance to play around with it further.

The question mark was missing but anyway the solution is dependent on the user by virtue of its styles, layout, widgets, plugings, pages, posts, carousel and etc. Most people like wordpress and some other may also like joomla but for now fortunately You can try wordpress for a very quick start. A good CMS will not care what your front-end looks like. It will allow users to manage content and provide an API of some kind that the frontend can interface with. It should not provide styling, markup. Just give me the data I request. Unfortunately most CMS systems don't do this and try to do everything - poorly.

it depends on the requirements and needs of one as all have their own pros and cons. But I use WordPress

Basic difference between WordPress and Joomla is that WordPress is a blog.

Both overlap each other in several areas and can be extended beyond their original purpose

The use of plugins have expand the functionalities, plugins are almost everywhere on the internet you find a lot
