Feedback for CleanVid - Clean YouTube Embeds

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I created cleanvid.io and I wanted to ask for feedback about the design, the service and the usability. Shortly about the website: With CleanVid you can remove distracting elements (like title, buttons, or related videos) from YouTube embeds on your website. So the target audience is website owners (that's why I chose this forum).

I am always looking to improve CleanVid and would love to hear your thoughts. Whether you have suggestions, encounter any issues, or simply want to share your experience.

Thanks!

It say's I've got to sign in with Google to try it for free. Does this mean I always need to be signed into google to embed a video?

It's not clear how this will work with WordPress embeds. Why can't I just use query parameters to clean up the video?

You can create an account on the website via Google. If you have an account, you can add the domain of your website. You can then insert the script into your website (as described in the documentation). You can use this for 7 days without restriction, after which your domain will be blocked.
I think I should explain more on the login page.

By โ€œWordPress embedsโ€ do you mean YouTube embeds on a WordPress site? As with other sites, you just have to insert the script and that's it. Due to the YouTube query parameters, you only have limited options for hiding elements. You can read more here https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters?hl=en#Parameters

Just give it a try, I think this will solve the ambiguities :)

Adding the scripts to wordpress as described on your site isn't possible. You need to enqueue.

https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/wp_enqueue_script/

Ideally you need a wordpress plugin. That way you will get far more traction.

If you can't do that the documentation needs to have clear steps as to what to do.

For example:

https://kinsta.com/blog/wordpress-iframe/

Not everyone is a developer. Many won't have a clue how to make this work on their site. Those using wix, shopify or any other site builder can't use it at all.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with WordPress. However, I use WordPress myself for my blog and I was able to integrate the script there without any problems. Simply insert an HTML block (which you need for your iFrame anyway) and then insert the normal (YouTube generated) code there. Then insert the script (you can see it in the screenshot). At least that's how it worked for me.

However, the documentation is aimed at developers, that's true. I plan to explain in more detail how to integrate CleanVid on other platforms (WordPress, Shopify, ..) in further blog posts. I will also think about a WordPress plugin.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

The HTML Code for WordPress:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yvvuNn_TfnI" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe><script src="https://cleanvid.io/src/1.0.0.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">new CleanVid();</script>

Personally, I would never sign in using Google.ย  Perhaps alternative methods of sign up/in, especially just by email

May I ask why? I think many people see it that way. I see almost only advantages from both the user's and the operator's point of view. For users it's convenient and quick to register, you also benefit from Google's security measures, and most importantly you don't have to create or manage passwords, which reduces the risk of weak or reused passwords.
As an operator, this makes me less attractive to hackers, as I don't store any email/password combinations. It also protects me from spam and bots.

The disadvantages are privacy concerns and dependency on Google. And maybe some people think that the Google Sign In gives me access to the account or even passwords.

See your code: <iframe width="560"

How will that work on a phone? Or a site with a grid/columns?

For iframes to work on all devices you need to wrap the iframe in a div and add the necessary CSS:

https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_css_responsive_iframes.asp

Building a wordpress plugin is easy. Happy to help create one for you.

I shouldn't need to sign in to google to use your tool. A normal email/pass login will be fine.

I do like what you have done, it's very clever but it needs to be more user friendly so non-developers can use it with ease.

I value my privacy.ย  To much to reply here, you would have to look into google and see and know what they're up to.

I just wanted to show that you can integrate the script into an HTML block. How a YouTube iframe can be integrated well into a page is another matter.
