Hello ladies and Gentlemen!

I am very much interested in your thoughts and assistance on the following.

Over the last few months I've come up with a few ideas that i'd like to translate into websites, and i've been down this road before. I find I run into the same issues each time!

I am just pants at making things 'look good'. My coding skills are average, nothing special. but i am comfortable with it.

My issue is I lack any creativity! I am hoping this is a skill (design) that can be learnt! 

I've tried wireframing, but it looks like a 2 year old did it!

Any resources you guys would suggest?

I perfectly understand this because I used to face this same issue. 

But I later came to realize that there are guys that specialize in the physical look (UI) and in the User Experience (UX).  

SO what I did and still do till this day at my company is to give a good UI/UX designer.  They will design how the website/Mobile App should look like and send it back to us in PNG.  Then we can implement the design in code.  This way, we do not waste time on trying to be creative with the appearance.

Now if the project is a low budget project, I use websites like Dribble, Codecanyon and other similar Apps to get design concepts to put together.  I make sure this process does not take too much time though.

Thanks for the reply! Aye, the UI/UX designer is on my radar, but since these are personal projects and likely never going to be commercial (unless i'm lucky!) I'd like to avoid paying someone to design for me. Though, I do see the time / frustration saving benefit in this approach!

As for dribble and code canyon, this is a good shout! I shall give this a try!

I would copy existing designs, most web developers don't do any design work.  In the past I've been handed designs that I code up and that was my job.  I typically get more involved at the design stage these days but still we have dedicated designers and engineers.

So if design isn't your thing then focus on what you enjoy and improve that.  You can always pair up with a designer for freelance projects or join as an employee at a firm (most of which have dedicated designers)
