Some of you may know I am writing a book at the moment on web design (its called TWIG - The Web Inspiration Guide). I am hoping to release it soon.

 

Anyway heres a url for the proof of the site. I made it quite quickly, but overall I am fairly happy with it. What do you all think?

You've pulled off the dark background very well (I'm not a fan of dark backgrounds)

Picky, i know, but "let you know whether your in or not" should read "let you know whether you're in or not" (I'm sure you'd have it proofed before launch anyway!)

Thanks for that, yes I will be proabably changing text before launch anyway, but well spotted.

 

Does photoshop have a spell checker? I coudl really do with one lol

I'm not sure I see that as a good thing. The whole "web 2.0 look" is a trend, so it'll probbly feel dated pretty quickly. It also means there's already a sh*tload of sites that already have a similar look - why not develop your own style?

Have you checked the new site design?

I like the site. Its design looks nice. Its layout is clean too.

Web 2.0 is not a design aesthetic.

 

I prefer the second layout to the one linked at the top, though it would be nicer if the columns lined up in IE6 and there was a little more contrast. It's a very adorable layout though. *hugs it*

The design is really nice, I like the layout but the text could do with a bit more line height.

It's one of those sites that looks like it would really benefit from a vertical rhythm. I think making the text line up, rather than the boxes would make a huge difference.

Sorry - no, I hadn't. I'd read the original and some of the posts below... I think I was too tired last night and should have barred myself from forumming...

 

The new one has way more character. Much prefer it over the other one. Couple of suggestions:

 

- Where the doodles are next to particular sections, make them more relevant to that section. For example, in the bottom left, you have the "register your interest" section, with doodles of an ! sign and smiley lightbulbs. Those fit, but some of the others don't, like the spider hanging off the newsletter signup box.

 

- I can't quite make out the writing next to the left smiley lightbulb..

 

- The bottom right documents icon doesn't seem to fit the style, it looks more like something you'd find in Wingdings.

 

- Some of the box outlines are bugging me a little. Took a little while to figure out why, but I think it's because they look like paths with a line style rather than looking like they were hand drawn. Same with the dark grey outlined clouds at the top - those look like they were drawn on the computer.

Looks too dark. Sort of like a wordpress template. Why dont yo uspice it up a bit with a little creative artistry?

I have a feeling I'm in a minority here, but I prefered the first one. With some refinement, it'd be great. However I do like the second one too, I'm just not feeling the pink text and it seems a little chaotic to me.
