July 27, 201511 yr hey guys, I am looking to code my first e-commerce website, does anyone know of any useful websites that would be beneficial for me to look at to guide me through the process? I am confident with jquery and javascript, but was just wondering whether or not it would be useful to read up on php and whether an e-commerce website really need it? any information would really help me out!!
July 27, 201511 yr Honestly, If your wanting to build an e-commerce site I would use one of the existing platforms. I personally use Magento. I find it easy to work with and modifying templates and creating new ones it pretty easy, there are plenty of Google results for pretty much anything you can think of doing with the platform as well. They constantly push out new updates and if a security bug is found it's normally patched and pushed out alerting you that it needs doing. If I'm not mistaken it's owned by eBay as well. Building your own e commerce can be very rewarding but at the same time it would cause a whole load of headaches. Edited July 27, 201511 yr by richardmountain
July 27, 201511 yr Author cheers for the advice, I am quite keen to attempt to do it from scratch so that I can improve my web developing skills. The e-commerce site I want to set up is very basic with approximately 5 products that will be sold. I am wanting to go into a career in web design therefore I feel I will benefit from building one from scratch. Edited July 27, 201511 yr by ed.stout93
