    cheers for the advice, I am quite keen to attempt to do it from scratch so that I can improve my web developing skills. The e-commerce site I want to set up is very basic with approximately 5 products that will be sold. I am wanting to go into a career in web design therefore I feel I will benefit from building one from scratch.

I am confident with jquery and javascript, but was just wondering whether or not it would be useful to read up on php and whether an e-commerce website really need it? any information would really help me out!!
