September 1, 201412 yr Hi Guys n Gals, I've been working on a new brochure for myself to give to clients. It's not finished yet but i'd thought i'd share the preview with you all. I have noticed some slight pixelation with the flyer images on this flip toolAny feedback would be appreciated. http://www.flipsnack.com/cherrydesigns/cherry-designs-design-portfolio.html

September 1, 201412 yr You've made the mistake designers very often make. It's fine from a design point of view, but completely lacking from a marketing point of view. It gives the reader no reason at all to select you for their project, and if anything will actually discourage prospects. It really is a case of all design and no substance. Why should a prospective client choose you over your competition?
September 1, 201412 yr Sorry? What's your company name? I do know but why is it not on the cover? You need contact details on the front too and i think the typography could be jazzed up I did however like the contemporary feel, it's just lacking in reasons to remember you when it's been sitting on a desk for a few weeks amongst all the other brochures and paperwork

Typography, possibly, could do something with it. However, I feel if I jazzed it up, it would be too much. I love the feel of it. i've never done anything this intense so was a learning experience too
September 1, 201412 yr Thank you - something to think about for sure. If you tell us why your prospects should choose you rather than another designer, I'll give you some ideas for the brochure. If you don't have a very clear answer to that question you have skipped marketing and gone straight into advertising.

September 1, 201412 yr What would you do to rectify it? I'm happy to give you some pointers, but I need to know what you see as your point of differentiation. Feel free to send a private message if you prefer.

I am not talking about 'jazzing up' I am talking about a visualisation of your company persona on the front cover, I see no personality and therefore no reason to even attempt to look inside.

Are you suggesting I should have more content on the front cover? Simply adding "Cherry Designs" to the front cover will not make any difference. People will see the Brand ID and think "Whats this, I can see its associated with Design [by the sub title] but who is it" and open it. If i were to put a picture of my work on the front, it would be cluttered or look like a flyer, If i put a collage on the front, it would look like a book, If i added a background It would be too much. If anything, I should make the text smaller to make the Brand ID stand out more causing the reader to have more interest on who and what this is. Less is more, Design is minimal, design should be cleaver and make you want to investigate and interact. Anyone can make something for people to look at and just think "Yup thats that" but my design is aimed to get people involved and intrigued

Anyone can make something for people to look at and just think "Yup thats that" but my design is aimed to get people involved and intrigued I am suggesting you have a stronger design, stronger does not always have to mean more, it simply means to send a clearer message. You are not apple or any other well known brand, having your company name with your logo is pretty important at this time. You don't need a collage or any other type of over the top designed element, your 'message' is not clear, there is no concept, there is no message, it's simply bland Do you have a style guide for your branding? Do you have a concept for that cover or even the whole booklet? Did you even look around at other booklets to get ideas? Why would you even consider making the text smaller, very silly to make it less readable. There are so many design flaws there I would hardly know where to begin, I am just trying to make you see that it's really not suitable and I can see from what you have produced you need to do far more research into how to appeal to an audience and how to make a design have some personality. By the way, what you have there is not a brand, it's a logo, a brand has personality, it has rules about colour, style, fonts, types of images, style of writing, even how far apart images should be from one another, a brand should be recognisable even if the logo and company name are not present, like for example inner pages of a brochure.

Super - thanks. Ill keep all of the above in mind
