February 21, 201412 yr Hello friends! I have been asked to make a website for a warehouse here in town. I have just begun working on it. It's in the early stages, and I would really appreciate your thoughts on what I've done so far. Please bear in mind that my level is somewhere between a beginner and an intermediate, so one of the things I don't know is how to do a table-less design. Thanks a lot! http://www.stefan.gr/warehouse/template.html Edited February 21, 201412 yr by stephen88eu
February 21, 201412 yr There's not really any design to give feedback on, it looks more like a wireframe. I'd recommend taking this as an opportunity to get away from using tables for layout. This can be easily achieved using CSS.
February 21, 201412 yr if i were you i would be tempted to hand this over to a web designer who has more experience - who knows how to build modern websites to standards. in the meantime make some practice sites and learn modern technniques. tables haven't been used in web design for layout for years and years and years now Being a beginner is fine, but providing web design for businesses at your level - however well intentioned - is just going to end up being a lot of work for you and a poor product for the customer. take it easy, learn the stuff and then go and sell your services.
February 21, 201412 yr In all honesty I would ask the question, what makes you think you can take on clients when you know that you are not up to par with even minimum standards?
February 21, 201412 yr Author Thanks everyone for your replies! You're right - I am too inexperienced to make professional web sites - I'm still learning! However I've been asked to do this, so I'll give it my best shot and, who knows, I might as well make a decent site.
February 21, 201412 yr Your enthusiasm is awesome, go get 'em!I would highly recommend looking into using less table based layouts though.Good luck!
February 21, 201412 yr Agreeing with what everyone else has said before me. try looking into http://getbootstrap.com/ , It's useful for making responsive sites, but also can get you away from using a table for your website, it explains how to use its features and I'm sure you would pick it and be making great websites if you continue practising hard! Good luck mate Edited February 21, 201412 yr by JRP
February 22, 201412 yr Hello, Most decent web designers will always be against the user of table although some naughty ones will carry on using these, here some material to help you: http://giveupandusecss.com/ The logo needs a redesign, maybe get a graphic designer to do a better logo? The website needs more colour, it's too gray, use Adobe Kuler to generate colors: https://kuler.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/ or search the web for nice background images. Although copying someone's design is wrong, there's no harm on using it for inspiration, google pages on the similar industry and look at what they're doing, you will find yourself thinking: "oh, I like this, I might do something similar on my page!". Use it for inspiration thou, never copy somebody's else code. If you are charging for the services, don't rip them off because they might not end up with the same final result an experienced designer would do, be fair with them and you will have more customers
February 24, 201412 yr If you need design inspiration have a look at dribble or awwards. Even though you are inexperienced theres nothing wrong with getting a few ideas on how websites look at this era. Im sure if you follow any design off that site your client will be very very very happy. Even if you did need any help im sure for the right price someone would help you here. Have fun & keep learning!
August 10, 201412 yr this is similar with my first design , but i use photosop, slice here, slice there, dont know how to create even single table. I only knew draw my layer, layer and layer. Good job and keep learning !
