Hi WDF'ers,

How are you all?

So, from being given a task by a friend to help her design her new website I've found myself back in code land!

I used to develop web sites around 8 or so years ago (give or take a few years) using XHTML/CSS and some PHP/MySQL. I know a lot has probably changed (HTML5/CSS3) and thought I would join a friendly community to help me ease back into it.

I'm currently reading 'Responsive Web Design with HTML5 & CSS3' by Ben Frain and will be doing the practise site on this link: http://javascriptissexy.com/learn-html5-css3-and-responsive-web-site-design-in-one-go/

I will need to do a refresher on CSS - My HTML is still pretty OK since I hand coded everything the syntax & code was pretty much hardwired into my brain.

Anyway, just a bit of background info on me. Hope to chat with some kind coder folk soon :)

Cheers

Jay

'ello Jay and welcome to the forum :)

Not a coder per se, so not sure on changes to PHP in the last 8 years, but would assume you've got a headstart on many. It won't take long to pick up the new conventions in HTML5 and CSS3 (unless you're using Canvas ;) ).

I have to say that Ben Frain is one of the best authors out there in terms of accessibility and practicality. Once you've read that book, I highly recommend his second. Easily one of my fav books from the web world.

Anyways, get stuck in with the threads and look forward to seeing how you progress and learning off of your experiences as you go along.

Thanks 4li4s,

Thanks for the warm welcome! Love the Ren profile pic ;) Used to love that cartoon...

Will look into his second book, thanks for the reference.

Jay

P.S. I just threw all of my canvas out! ha!
