May 4, 201313 yr ...not a web designer, just built a blog site. I took me a few months to get it better and better while learning more about SEO, html code and user experience. Let me tell the story maybe someone finds some bits of it entertaining: I started 10 months ago with a single html site I created in MS Word and saved as html. Looking back it looked terrible. 90's retro feeling. Soon I realized that with my zero level knowledge a CMS is a better option than MS Word. I switched to Wordpress. The first day my Wordpress site was up it got hacked. I responded with a few weeks of learning about what actually htaccess means. Later I spent a few months searching for cool plugins and I installed everything I liked. As a result the site was loading in about 5 seconds. I also had to realize that google doesn't even put my site into the first 10 pages of search results. So I went on with some SEO self-studies and wrote a 20 page SEO strategy for myself with complete competitor review. After some basic optimization my site is up to the 2nd through the 4th page of google search results. I had to turn some attention to the site speed. Again took about a month's free time, now I know more about browser caching and CDN. Hunting down the funky plugins on by one too also a while. I carefully reviewed each installed plugin and killed everything that were nice to have but slowing down the site. I implemented Amazon Couldfront as well to see the site load improving to 800ms on average. Now I consider that part done. Currently I'm focusing on executing the SEO strategy that I defined. A lot of static new content is being created to enhance search ranking. I also learned that google has some automatic ways to measure user experience on the site meaning checking the design. That's why I'm here, it's time to do some learning on this front as well. PS: Can someone tell me why I can't open a thread in the website reviews forum section? I would be quite interested to get some feedbacks. And I don't want any links to my site from here because my site has nothing to do with webdesign.
May 5, 201313 yr Welcome manngo. Very nice intro. Don't know why you can post in the review section. Did you try to post links or upload files? You need a few posts before you are alowed to do so. Hope you will enjoy the forum
May 6, 201313 yr Hi manngo. Welcome to the forum. You've given a nice and brief summary of your activity so far I couldn't agree more with what you've written about loading the site. The more elements you include, the slower your site might be. That's why it's good to find a golden middle and include elements beneficial for the users that will not increase downloading time
May 6, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the warm welcome. Forgot to add that my site is www(dot)theinvestorclub(dot)org I would be interested to hear some opinions.
May 6, 201313 yr Author I'm getting frustrated with this forum. Anywhere I try to post I get the message that I'm not allowed to post except I upgrade for a platinum whatever paid membership. The system first says I can post in the given thread. It also says I'm allowed to post 22 posts for today. But when I try to post I get an error saying I need to upgrade to gold / platinum membership. ?! Is this some kind of scam? Did you pay to be able to post?

You can thank the spammers in the past for this forum being so strict on new comers. You shouldn't have to purchase anything to make a post it seems to me like your making post just fine. Once you reach 25 post the restrictions will be dropped which also includes posting click able links restriction. But as a fair warning don't do what some members do and just write useless replies on topics to raise your post count doing so will be considered spam and every last reply will be removed there for dropping your post count again. Other then that enjoy WDF

I remember there I had similar problems when I joined the forum. I was getting error messages when I was replying to other post even though I didn't post links or images. I found out that I didn't get the errors by using the black "reply to this topic" button at the top of the page instead of the "Post" button below the latest post. I know it sounds wierd but it worked for me. Give i a go.

I wanted to type "robots, txt" just using a dot instead of comma. It was identified as a link. Hopefully in a few weeks I have 25 posts and can get rid of these issues.
May 7, 201313 yr Author It's annoying that I want to post something without any links and the I keep getting the message I can't post links. I removed all '.' and '/' and '\' and 'www' from my post but it still keeps insisting I have links in my post? Please do something with your link filter otherwise people will keep spamming here not being able to post in any other meaningful parts of the forum. Edited May 7, 201313 yr by manngo

I know its annoying but these types of restrictive measures is what has kept the spam at a minimum. 13 more post and your at 25 anyways so just hang in there
May 9, 201313 yr Author Sorry for joking but your profile image conflicts a little bit with the smile in your post btw. I can post links by now. But I don't want to.
