March 14, 201313 yr Hi, I'm not usually into designing websites for other people, although I have a job in which I am going to build a very small business site for someone. I want to know should I be setting up some kind of additional hosting package for him? and if so how would he go about monthly/annual payments.. just set up with his payment details and leave it to him?? I have my own shared hosting account, I'm not sure whether to just set up another one in his name?? Cheers for your help on this, Steve
March 14, 201313 yr As you say you have a couple options on how to deal with your client, if you want to make a little extra money then I would say buy & manage the hosting on your clients behalf and charge him yearly (yearly just to make things easier for you). If you can get a small reseller account on top of your current hosting it would make it easier for you. If you don't want to be left managing his account etc then just setup a client account with a hosting company and then give him access to pay the bills etc
March 14, 201313 yr I agree with what hostmedia has said. If you want to make a bit of money, you could get a reseller account of some sorts. I usually make recommendations to clients and leave it to them to make the decision on the host. Once they have decided and setup the payment, I'm usually given the passwords for initial setup and then hand back control to the client. Any server issues can then be directed to the necessary parties otherwise I get inundated with request for help. As much as I am willing to help, it's not necessary for them to go through me. If they have any hosting issue, they get 24/7 support from the hosting company. It gives the client full control of the account and you're not held responsible if the server goes down (clients will blame you! )
March 22, 201313 yr Normally we host clients website at 1and1. When buying the host we inform the client that he will need to pay extra costs for the hosting services.
March 22, 201313 yr 1and1... I thought people mentioning that joke of a hosting company got an insta-ban?
June 17, 201313 yr Really want to know why everyone hates 1&1? I'm using somebody else's package before I buy my own.
