I avoid free stuff really as there isn't much depth to them and lack any real up to date changes. But having said that there are free versions of premiums tools that I use like serpfox, ahrefs, mozscape

 

They're mainly for rankings and link building. Then I have campaigns set up with seomoz

SEOpen tool, Alexa, Google Analytics and Webmaster tool are free tools available.

All tools provided by the Google like Webmaster, Analytics, Website Optimizer, Zeitgeist, Trends, Insights, Traffic Estimator, Keyword Tool, Ad Planner are the best free seo tools.

Jason has a point there. Most of free SEO tools aren't that good since they are probably a bit out-dated. They don't have the qualities that you need to achieve what you want for your website but still, you can go for it when you are just starting just to learn the basics of each tool.

I still favour sortsite I like the way it does all the work for and basically tells you what to do. My codes pretty seo efficient now I'm not sure where to go from here.

One of my favourites is woorank!

I would say cuterank - paid version of cuterank is a lot better have to say but i think the free version allows you to track one site

I use a few density checkers to make sure i've not hammered a search phrase to hard. Not found a 'perfect' one but they give you a heads up for sure.

SEOmoz, Fiddlertool,Google Analytics, Google Webmaster tools etc are the free SEO tools available online.

Full-scale SEO tools are never for free.

 

However, some browser extensions (such as "check my links" to find broken links, "seomoz" toolbar to judge technical quality of website or the Pagerank tool) is quite useful for small tasks.

Also, as an SEO, I tend to open dozens of links in the same time, so it is worth using a bulk URL opener.

When you collected some link targets you can use Mozcheck to get some SEOmoz data about them. You can check up to 1000 links a month!

Use link diagnosis for competitor analysis. Works from the SEOmoz database thus it is a great substitute for Open Site Explorer.

am using Quick searchstatus tool on mozila browser. It comes with page rank, alexa, keywords highlighted, webpage cached date and many more which helps seo optimization easily.

Yes I agree. SEO Quake is a very useful tool for every SEO. In my opinion.

Never use tool for creating back link but yes use them for syping and finding new links. Always do manual linking.

I would like to refer Google Webmaster tool as the best SEO tool and you can get details information and guide regarding SEO.

Major Spoiler Alert - I wrote one of these tools. Try to guess which one it is

 

Google AdWords - If not used for PPC, then still good for "trying out" new keywords and phraseology. See how competitive (I mean expensive; monetarily, emotionally, you get the picture ) your KW are and what verbiage people respond to.

 

Google Webmaster Tools - Is good for letting you know what terms your site is showing for organically and where it is ranked

 

Google Analytics - Good for getting a bird's eye view of onsite traffic.The tool really comes into it's own when you start making custom segments and defining goal funnels

 

SEOMoz- It took me more than a year to realize this was just a wrapper around basic Google functions. The only value-added thing was the history tracking, useful if you need to illustrate progress.

 

MasjesticSEO - Specifically deals with links. Good for domain name prospecting. Measure link quality (trust) and quantity (citations) on a per-domain basis. $49 about the same price as SEOmoz.

 

HTML Validator Pro - Surprise I made this! It's an HTML validator, spell checker (Matt Cutts said this was good to check) and I have broken link checking planned for May. Totally free, you're invited to come and use it up!

Best free tool for any SEO or webmaster is from Google; like Webmaster Tools, Analytics, Keyword Tool etc. All the other tools and software are also good for link building campaigns and finding link opportunities.
