October 12, 201213 yr I know there is the pinned topic up there, but I don't really have time to read through all the descriptions right now. Besides, I'm not even sure what I'm looking for exists. Basically I'm trying to find an open source CMS that will allow people to register an account and then post content (most likely an image with some text), much like Twitter. I assume something like this is not available, at least not for free, due to the nature of the system and it's similarity to most social media sites, but if there is anything out there that may be useful please let me know.
October 12, 201213 yr Do you mean like a forum? There are plenty of them like phpbb3 https://www.phpbb.com/ http://wordpress.org/ can be made to do what you want with a bit of editing or choose a plugin like BuddyPress or a theme. Edited October 12, 201213 yr by Wickham

October 12, 201213 yr As Wickham mentioned, BuddyPress could do this and you should be able to strip it right down so it doesn't interfere with the simplistic nature of your idea.

Agree totally with Rob, what you are after comes out of the box in Drupal!
October 15, 201213 yr Agree totally with Rob, what you are after comes out of the box in Drupal! Joomla too and, IMO, the learning curve is shallower. Not that there's anything wrong with Drupal, but I think you will be up and running with such functionality on a live site faster with Joomla.

That was true for earlier versions of Drupal but the Drupal 7 series is much more friendly. I also believe that when the forthcoming Drupal 8 is released even the most skeptical will be impressed! Watch out wordpress!
