September 21, 201213 yr So I have been asked to redesign a site (www.rebecca-dyer.co.uk) what would you do? Where would you start? Its an ok design, I am really stuck for inspiration!
September 21, 201213 yr I'd start by going back to the client and finding out what problem they're looking to solve with a redesign - could be that what they actually need is something else entirely.
September 21, 201213 yr Author They just want it changing nothing specific (the client is my girlfriend ) they basically just want the look changing maybe a few new pages adding etc.
September 21, 201213 yr (the client is my girlfriend ) Sucks to be you, doesn't it? I have no sympathy.
September 21, 201213 yr Sucks to be you, doesn't it? I have no sympathy. QFTW! haha But no seriously these are the worst kind of clients (Girlfriends).
September 21, 201213 yr Author I know, can you do this can you do that. all the time! Why isn't my printer working, why can't I use your computer! Why don't you use Windows. I have heard it all Admittedly I bring it on myself sometimes. But Im not a "designer" I'm more of a front end developer tbh, I can throw together a pretty picture on my computer but thats the limits!
September 21, 201213 yr Jeez it's like listening to my self! This is why i'm building an office in my garden shed, otherwise it's this ALL DAMN DAY!
September 21, 201213 yr Author haha, unfortunately I live in a flat that was converted from a shop, no space to hide and my office is the living room! I have an idea, but its going to be a case of pulling it off lol. I need a man cave to hide really
September 21, 201213 yr Yeah, when i was back in London it wasn't a possibilty to have a man cave *ahem* i mean 'office' to hide in but now, thank god, it is! I think what you need to do is treat your girlfriend like a real client. Sit her down and go through the site, figure out exactly she wants doing to it and where she would like to see change.
September 21, 201213 yr Author she wants "pretty pictures" lol! It was me who made the original site, but now she wants to "give me something to do". I shall treat her like a real client and invoice her alot of tea!
September 21, 201213 yr http://themeforest.net/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&term=photography&categories=psd-templates&sidebar_redirect=true Search term is photography but you can use it for a model as they showcase the same things?
September 21, 201213 yr Sell the product! The product being her. It's not entierly clear that she is a model, and the pictures on the banner are her. A good place to start will be solving this design and information layout issue.
September 21, 201213 yr Author This is good feedback thank you. I am currently trying to design a landing page for the site which will give the impression "model" a little more. Let me know what you think ...
September 21, 201213 yr Author it isn't perfect and is being designed with "gimp image editor" also its noway near finished!
September 23, 201213 yr some small accents of coluor might work (like the coral pink/red that's in some of the photos, but generally this sort of (modelling) portfolio is often fairly neutral so it showcases photos. if she wanted something more dramtic you could try a darker background - might give more oomph to the pictures, but as you say, there's really nothing with the site now. maybe after talking to her get her to invite some friends round and look through the site and sit back and listen what they say? also the about page could do with some love: firstly you could use some colour on there, just a sprinkle somewhere, the text is awful - underlined text that's not a link and all faux italics, at least make the links a hot pink or something why are all the images on the portfolio page blurry and low res looking!?
