There is always pop punk...the slightly diluted attempt of a punk revival that used may other genres in its path as well so isn't true Punk Rock. I will use a favourite band of Rachaels, Simple Plan who are a good example of the diluted punk sub genre mash of styles that is known as Pop punk. Other bands would include Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco (before they lost the ! now that they have lost the ! I don't know where they are placed), All American Rejects, Paramore. Then you have the true Punk Rock bands such as Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash I only thought I would share my opinions on the world of punk, its sub genres and diluted revival attempts as I mentioned I like Punk too...but I also like Pop Punk so I am not having a go at Simple Plan, they just aren't real Punk Rock, so please don't kill me if those were the style of bands you were referring to when you mentioned really liking Punk Rock, Rachael

Funnily enough it was a term many of the original bands seeked to cast off as soon as they could. It's well worth going backwards if you like The Pistols, Clash, Ramones, Damned etc Try New York Dolls, Sonics, Iggy & the Stooges, Velvet Underground for starters. These days the bands who I think are 'punk' pf sorts (plus other styles mixed in) would include Von Bondies, White Stripes, Billy Childish & the Musicians of the British Empire, The Fall...
May 13, 200818 yr Sports wise I like golf, badminton, playing football with my friends when i can be bothered and i've recently taken up jogging to try and lose some weight. As for music I like most things but right now I'm realy heavily into my industrial, digital hardcore, EBM and death metal. Favourite bands/artists right now are The Shizit, Rabbit Junk (seriously check them out they're brilliant), Atari Teenage Riot, Combichrist, Cyanotic, Acumen Nation, Nine inch Nails, Suicide Commando and Pitchshifter. It's not all industrial based though .. i'm also a massive fan of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eminem, We Are Scientists and other stuff. Seriously I like a little of everything, if anyone wants a further explanation of a genre or hasn't heard of a band just ask and i'll tell .

May 14, 200818 yr Aren't they all watered down emocore? yes and no, the problem with a lot of musical genres today is that everything is so diluted down into this mash of different genres, sub genres, and influences. So a lot of bands can fall into many different genres and sub classifications of that genre or 'watered down' versions of that sub genre and in a way the bands are stuck in this indescribable , everyone sees them differently sort of place. After all Emo is just a sub genre mash of Punk, Rock, Indie, Rap, Pop, Thrash Metal and the occasional Gothic twist (I probably missed some out). So other attempts of classification Pop punk, Punk revival, Skater Rock have also been used...especially for those bands that wish to say away from the image of singing about self harming and hating the work that a lot of people associate with the term emo. So yes and no to them all being emo, as they can be described as that but they can also be placed into other classifications too that are more targeted towards their influenced sound.

I know what you mean about random taste my ipod is extremal random, Andrea Bocelli, Apocalyptica, Ashley Tisdale, Avenged Sevenfold, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Random musicals and Disney music, Fred Astaire, Cradle of Filth, The Rat Pack, Johnny Cash, Britney Spears, Vivaldi, Utada Hikaru, Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, Neil Young....sorry I go on to much My boyfriend hates it as if I put itunes on random, it could go from cradle of filth to a song from a disney film and I would be singing a long to both like they were meant to be put together (if you can't tell I simply love mostly all forms of music)

Is it because everyone in the world loves it, or is it a personal taste thing? Sorry I just don't get the point in asking why people think a band is good...its the exact same reason why you think a band you like is good, because you like them...how they sound...how they make you feel...how the singer sings...how the guitarist plays the guitar. Its not to everyone's taste, but it is to some peoples. As we are on sub genres and musical classification it would be nice to know what you think metal is as it could be totally different to my thoughts of what metal really is...so out of interest care to share some of your favourite metal bands
May 14, 200818 yr Avenged Sevenfold are an amazing band. They have one of the most talented lead guitarists I've ever seen, and they put on a mindblowing live show. Ashley Tisdale is a 22-year-old Popstar from the states, more commonly known from her role as "Sharpay" in high school musical.

He may have technical ablilties unimaginable to most of us, but I've never heard him play anything musical... Best guitarists IMO are: Nick Harper John Williams Paul Simon and I really like Scott Matthews I agree Slash is a good guitarist, but I certainly wouldn't call him one of the best. His acoustic work on GnR Lies is not that great IMO </opinionated>

Not only classical, but I do love classical. My favourite is acoustic (steel strung) but I do like some electric players too, like Joe Walsh. I know it's a little cheesy, but his solo on Hotel California is mind blowing (the middle bit, not the outro - cheese overload). Technical ability is something I can appreciate, but it has to be coupled with a sense of musicality. Each to his own, sir!
