As I've seen so so many good website builder companies out there who charge their customers for such a tiny fragment of money each month comparing with the lum-sum money people has to invest in acquiring their own design and feels with web design studio - is it worth it to pay a higher price for custom design? (I am talking about normal consumers, individual person who doesn't have much to invest like corporate). Website builder's template designs aren't bad at all nowadays plus customer could insert their own code and CSS in order to get the nearest feels and looks suitable with their requirement. As I am running web design and development studio myself, it's such a tough industry and extremely competitive market with tons of many talented designers and developers lurking behind their desk, with millions more to come in the nearly future due to the economic crisis. Questions are: 1. What do you think about the future of web design studio or any individual freelancer working from home could be? 2. What are pros and cons between free or cheap website builder vs web design studio? 3. What are the interesting topics you'd like to read about web design and developing business related?

Those providing a good service, along with good quality work should have a good future - studios or freelancers. However studios are probably more at risk because they often have wages and office rent to pay so any downturn or long quiet periods could mean lack of cash flow which in turn could close the business. As a freelancer I have more than enough work coming in, and lucky enough to have to be turning work away at the moment! 2. What are pros and cons between free or cheap website builder vs web design studio? You have to remember that most people cannot use, or shy away from "website builders" simply because they aren't that literate with using web based software, or just don't want to use them. When was the last time you serviced your own car? All the tools for doing that are available, and servicing a car isn't rocket science, but like building web sites people generally let a professional do the work rather than get their own hands dirty. 3. What are the interesting topics you'd like to read about web design and developing business related? Content modelling!

I am asking for "topics" not the content, after reading comments from here I need to do a lot of research and digest it from there, blend it with my own knowledge and experience before writing a blog.

July 25, 201214 yr I work for several large corporations as a freelancer. In fact so does my girlfriend but in a different industry. I meant no offence and I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just rare as most corporate clients wouldn't ask an individual to take on a project freelance, it's too much risk. The majority want a managed account. I know this because I worked as Project Manager and Project Director for blue chips, finance services and public sector before I established my own agency.

July 25, 201214 yr For me the only 'website builder' worth the server space it's hosted on is SquareSpace. They actually do a reasonable job of providing a decent site. Still doesn't match something custom built by someone who knows what they are doing though. I think we are seeing an expansion in that area, largely powered by Wordpress Plugin culture. The 'DIY' website is popular and there are fresh new tools that make it easy but just like the days of Geocities.. it'll contract again. Technology will move on and the DIY solutions won't be able to keep up.
