Hey guys,

need some help...

After trawling the internet for some hours on how to install wordpress, I still have no clue and cant seem to get my head around it, and wondering if someone can put this into a more simple form for me. I have not downloaded it yet as I dont know which one and where to download and I understand that I need a host. Anyone recommend the first few steps for me?

Thanks for your time

First step is to purchase a domain name and host.

You can't do anything until you've taken care of this step.

Sort this out and then let us know and we'll guide you through the rest.

That should go into enough detail to help you out.

Thank you for your comments, can you tell me any hosting websites and domains that you could recommend?

Please do not append your link to every post. When you reach a set amount of helpful posts you will be allowed to append a signature.

I register all my clients domains with daily.co.uk.

For hosting it really depends on what you're after, how much traffic you expect, the different services you require.

Do your research and find what you feel is the best host for you.

I hot my sites with stormhosts.com and my clients with heartinternet.com

Some web hosts, including ourselves, offer a 1-click installer for WordPress. It's really a simple case of logging into your control panel and clicking on a couple of links.

I'm a bit of a purist so always opt of the do it yourself route, but the neat thing about the installers is that you always have that option there.

It's also worth choosing a host that knows a little about WordPress as they'll be able to help you if you get stuck.

If you have any questions about WordPress and hosting feel free to get in touch via the Web Designer Forum Private Message thing.

Cheers,

It's better to FTP it yourself rather than using the one-click installers, as they can lead to file ownership problems if set up incorrectly, plus they tend to do really dumb things like using wp_ as the table prefix.

I recommend tsohost, and as mentioned, they also have one click installers.

Their domains are fairly priced too and the tech support answer support tickets within minutes, regardless of time or day.
