I was wondering if you guys could have a look and critique my portfolio website: My portfolio site

I like your site. It is clear what you are doing. Your Design i think is a littlebit too white. Choose a color which is a little bit darker.

On your "Portfolio" page, you have used "readmore" links. I would change this, work the link into the flow of text. Doing this way can be a bonus for SEO.

 

Did you play around with other colours to go with the white, other than the black. A nice classic blue or green may go well with it. Just a thought.

 

Still a clean design though.

I don't like the overall contrast. It screams. The text on other pages needs more line height.

 

Mouse over on buttons reacts a bit sluggish for the first time hover, and I suggest using CSS with hover instead... or some JQuery effect instead swap image.

 

Menu items need proper spacing when selected.

 

You could widen the image rotator to fit the width of website since its controls are over rotated images. If you choose to do that, widen the banner above it as well to be larger than website width.

I'd leave the read more links there. The SEO gain you'd get from moving them would be outweighed by the usability of having them where they are.

I must disagree that it would outweigh it massively. Too many websites use just "Readmore" where better navigation can be done. If you are spending good time creating a good looking site with good content then it would be a shame to be lazy and use "readmore". After all it is a link and why would you want multiple links named the exact same thing, there are alternative ways to interact with the user.

Quite good. Although I think its missing a wow factor. Rather than a picture of yourself (which although personal, gives the impression of a designer with not much experience). I would think that a eye catching picture that makes a bold statement about yourself would have better effect. Either that or a design that you have created from your portfolio.

I think it is clear and simple but in my opinion there is something missing that gives to your website anything unique...

But I like it, keep it simple, sometimes simple is better.
