May 17, 201214 yr Hi My website seems to have an 80% bounce rate for some reason, could people please give their views as to why and some feedback on the site. www.orchidmobilebars.com Thanks Simon Edited May 17, 201214 yr by simon03167
May 17, 201214 yr The design looks quite dated my eyes are always drawn away from the navigation down towards the bottom of the page and off. If other people are experiencing the same thing it could be why your bounce rate is so high. Also less grey please
May 17, 201214 yr I wouldn't trust that site, it looks like it was knocked up by a child learning web design 10 years ago. The carousel images are professional - the site design isn't. It's an odd mix. Primarily the overuse of grey and vibrant purple puts me off! May 17, 201214 yr Typography, layout, colours, shadows, information structure all need lots of work. You're trying to present a desirable business, but actually your site looks amateurish and rushed. You even have a glaring spelling error in your front page carousel. Unless "Beautifill" is an attempt at a pun, in which case, it's not working. You're using words like sophisticated, elegant, fabulous in your carousel, but they go completely against the atmosphere your site creates. Having all your content in boxes with borders isn't making it easy to read. And your copy needs lots of work if you want visitors to read through and get in touch. Headings like "welcome to orchid mobile bars" are bordering on useless. Instead, use the space to capture your prospects' imaginations, and tell them about the benefits of your product. E.g. "Fully-stocked mobile bars keep your party in full swing" <- ok, a bit cheesy, but I spent 10 seconds on it. You get the idea, I hope. None of your pages has a call to action. Even if visitors are interested in your business, you're not making it easy for them to make a decision. All it takes is "Ask us for a quote today" or "Call now on ...." - whatever. You've got a few testimonials up there - don't hide them away on a separate page. Use them to support your main copy. State some of the benefits you want prospects to pick up on, then throw a testimonial at them. It's easy, and it works. Mobile bars by town and by area - lose this text. It looks cheap, desperate, and spammy. I recommend using the footer to remind prospects of how to get in touch with you, or include a sign-up form for a newsletter (including exclusive special offers). Lose the grey. Go for a light background with dark text - it's much more readable. Good luck Edited May 17, 201214 yr by notbanksy
May 17, 201214 yr Welcome to the forum Simon, hopefully the advice you get here will help you rectify the bounce rate problem. I have to echo what everyone else has said on here. The grey shades/purple mix is un-inspiring, lose this colour scheme or even just rethink the shades used. The purple would work well with a far lighter grey. Just out of interest, would you paint your bars in various shades of grey? Also while you're at it, drop the boxes. They're just making the content cramped and unreadable. Most importantly for me is to totally drop that footer, those keywords are doing your Google rating and the trust of your potential customers no good what-so-ever. Stuffing a site with keywords doesn't help anything.
May 17, 201214 yr Author Ok thanks for your input on this, i am very new to this, could you give me some ideas as to what style i should be going for like other sites or templates i could look at. Thanks Again. Simon
May 17, 201214 yr You need to do that sort of research yourself. Look around at your competitors and see what they have done and make it better. Don't copy them but look at how they've arranged things and how their website functions and you'll get a better understanding how things work. There are a lot of inspiration websites out there, but you need a design that will work for your business, not some generic thing that anyone can have. SEO is a problem on your current website, but as you said, you're new to this. You need to research that more and look into the latest techniques or hire someone to do it (cough cough) lol
May 17, 201214 yr No H1 tag, you're using poly shapes for the navigation which is a big no-no. You can recreate that navigation easier using CSS. Google won't be able to crawl it. You've crammed the footer full of links that are just pointing back to your homepage which dilutes the value of your primary keyword. Because you mobile bar TOWN a far few times in these links, Google won't understand which will be the best keyword to use. I could go on a little more but I'm rushing off to a meeting in a minute. Sorry dude. It just isn't that great in terms of SEO but I think thats purely down to the way it's been developed and built
May 17, 201214 yr Can you see how people are getting to your page? Is it directly, direct link or search terms. With the search terms, see if you can see which keywords are being used. The wrong keywords will bounce the wrong people to your site and that'll cause the mass bounce rate.
May 17, 201214 yr Author Hi Mikechipshop The search terms that im getting from google are correct and are using the keywords that i wanted. Thanks Jason for that bit of info.
